FM20 FM Save Idea - The West Ham 10 point pledge challenge

This is a club with history...and a trophy cabinet gathering dust. The team of the mid-'60s won the FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup and featured key players from England’s 1966 World Cup-winning team in Moore, Hurst and Peters. But only another 2 major trophies have been added since. Over 60 seasons overall have been spent in the top flight of English football but still no title win and barely a title race. There have been relegations and promotions. The Intertoto Cup. Tevez and Mascherano. That Pardew dance. A new athletics stadium. And of course, new owners.

They're a club with huge unfulfilled potential. Maybe they just need to find the right manager?

Haller is a real physical presence to lead the line. Behind him the likes of Fornals, Lanzini, Yarmolenko and Anderson offer flair. Wonderkid Declan Rice can patrol the middle from deep. Lukasz Fabianski remains an excellent keeper. Noble’s leadership of 20 means you have a great club captain in place. A couple of younger players have potential. There are positives.

And there are big negatives. Many of the rest of the players are either injury prone or well past their best, and in many cases both. Much of the squad has a ‘bet they were probably pretty good on FM16’ look to it. The defence looks particularly weak. If you’re planning on becoming a real force then big changes are needed.

Tactically the obvious focus looks to be getting the attacking midfielders on the ball in dangerous areas as this is the strongest area of your squad. You do have match winners. With Rice in central midfield, you can have a more possession-based style playing through him. Or you can go direct using Haller to bring the creative players into play higher up the pitch. You have options.

And you have a muddled squad. So it's time to get heavily involved in the transfer market as there are areas that need real improvements. The defence especially needs some serious attention at RB and CB. A long term successor for Noble would be good too unless you want to rely on Jack Wilshere staying fit.

There's a lot to do. So good luck and please let us know how you get on. My final bit of advice?

Do NOT rely on Jack Wilshere staying fit.
