ThePav Spirit of 99 Edit 2020-04-27

I have been using ThePav's 'Spirit of 99' tactic for a while as it has been extremely successful when used in the lower leagues where I normally play. However, I went into one season without a good enough shadow striker to play the tactic, so I decided to adjust the tactic to play with two strikers, and it has been even stronger. In League One, my two strikers were first and second in both goals scored and average rating at the end of the season, and both were playing at a League Two level at the time. We won the league with 5 games to spare after a predicted 14th position.

In the Championship I have decided to stick with the same tactic, and my team are already 9 points clear after just 16 games, with an incredible goal difference of 43. We have won every game but two, drawing against relegated Brighton and losing with ten men against the predicted 2nd place Bristol.

I have found it most successful with two fast strikers, neither have good finishing but most goals in this tactic come from long balls over the top, so I would recommend looking for strikers with high pace and acceleration. Corners and long throws are also important in this tactic, after the strikers my top goalscorer is a centre back, so it is important to have centre backs who are strong in the air and good long throw takers for each side of the pitch. The other players should just be good for their selected roles. With red cards, remove one of the two strikers and move the other one to the centre.

Full credit for the instructions and set piece layouts (and most of this tactic) goes to ThePav, this is just my edit of their tactic
