If that was one of the best England performances in a long time then we are in deep ****. Also lets have it right, that Italy side was not excellent.

-We played ok, some nice attacking movements but final ball was often not great

-We created the better chances, but didn't take then, Italy did.

-Some of our defending was dodgy, Too much space between the lines for Italy, especially centre-right. 2nd goal was far too easy, they ambled up the right and Baines let the cross in far far too easily.

-Hodgson has got a lot right as England manager IMO, but his persistence with Rooney is frustrating. The guy hasn't delivered since EURO 2004 and wasted our best chance to equalise. That corner was humiliating.

-Sterling was immense, the boy could have a big future. Sturridge and Welbeck also good, Henderson and Gerrard as well. Hart a bit nervy.

-Italy were meh. They were ruthless with their chances but we made the goals easy for them and when we tested them quickly in wide areas they were extremely nervous. Pirlo was superlative on the ball but typically allowed a lot of space when we countered quickly because of his lack of mobility.

-Overall promising, but we need to be more ruthless in both boxes. If we make it as easy for Uruguay their frontline will punish us. We also need to pick the right pass and be clinical with finishing. Rooney is ****.

If you have to play our so called saviour out of position on the left then don't play him at all. Someone please explain to me what Wilshere brings to the England squad as well. He is just a **** David Batty. Thinks he looks good by other players with more class around him. Passes sideways and backwards and nothing else.

The top sides in the world cup are more clinical in the final third and we need to work on that. Pirlo dictated from the start and no one closes him down.

Italy weren't great.

We got shafted down the left because Baines had no cover at all so Candreva had a field day running at him. Moving Sterling out to the right and taking Henderson off were both terrible decisions by Roy. Poor subs and horrible tracking back down the left cost us.

1 more thing that worried me was the amount of our players going down with cramp and struggling for fitness at the end.

Just said on ITV I think Sturridge picked up injury did not here right was in kitchen, is this true?

Euro 2012:

vs Italy our most played pass in the entire match was Joe Hart to Andy Carroll - a 60th minute sub.
vs Ukraine **** poor game where Rooney got the winner, **** shock horror.
vs Sweden meh
vs France meh

World Cup 2010:

vs USA Rob Green lol
vs Algeria pretty sure the only highlight was a Heskey stepover
vs Slovenia standard **** clenching England win in a must win game we should win easily
vs Germany robbed by the ref before we battered them 6-2.

So yeah, it was the best we've played in a **** long time. If you think that says it all and you want to be so negative, why put all the shoulder of blame on one man - we're **** anyway, right? Rooney set up the goal, but he shags grannies and looks a bit like Shrek with big wages, so we give him the grief over captain fantastic Gerrard who was just as bad.

Typical England anyway. Insult ourselves from qualifying about how bad we are. Dare to believe for a couple of weeks before it starts. Return to the pessimism after.

?? If anything I'd say Wilshere is one of our best players at looking for a forward pass. He offers more technical quality in tight spaces than Henderson and Gerrard, and moves beyond the ball more than those two with his attacking thrust and one-twos.

He is a great player for breaking down packed defences driving from deep as he does for Arsenal. Thus he was a good option when Italy decided to set up shop and challenge us to break them down. This goal is a good example of why Roy brought him on;

Arsenal vs Norwich (4-1) jack wilshere's goal of the season ! -HD 720p - Video Dailymotion

I think its the most promising we have looked in a long time, but also the Italian side were not that impressive

Don't know why but for me he has to start and not good at coming off bench, not really an impact type player. But then that leaves our dodgey defence exposed.

What else did Rooney do though apart from that one cross.

Didn't provide cover for Baines so we got shafted down the left for an hour, missed numerous shots, didn't even hit the target from one of the easiest chances he's likely to get and that Corner.

No one said Gerrard played well but Rooney has been ***** in tournaments since the end of Euro 04.

Ivory coast vs Japan now. Going to be a good game IMO. Japan are great technically and high intensity but ivory coast have Bony.

Agree with first part of this post, but what did Gerrard do that was so bad? Thought he did well personally. Also I thought Rooney was pretty bad. His cross for the goal was great but the bad outweighed the good significantly. He squandered our best chance to equalise.

Play a left winger there.

Didn't say anyone did, just saying the scapegoating is pathetic.

One of best peformances by Sterling, you mean. There was nothing excellent at all about most of the other guys. Henderson did okay, Barkley made a decent sub. Otherwise it was pretty ****. Gerrad was anonymous, subs did nothing, full backs didn't exist. Rooney was ****. Defense was very dogy - If Italy had a bit better aim (hit the woodwork twice, Balotelli's chip cleared in last second), we'd be talking about humilitating defeat right now.
