A tactic/formation without a striker?

Has anyone tried this successfully? Would be an interesting idea I think.
 
I once started a game as Arsenal to try out a strikerless tactic. Like 4-5-1/4-3-3 but with Van Persie centrally at AMC. It worked quite well, but I think you'll need pretty good players to pull it off. IMO the key is to get lots of players making runs towards goal, otherwise you'll just be passing in front of the opposition defence all day.
 
i tried it once and it failed miserably. was up against AC Milan 3-1 on aggregate in the 70th min and decided to go ultra-defensive, ended up losing 4-3. there is no way that his formation will work on a regular basis. you have to have a striker or you will get dominated in every single game.
