Don't quite understand something :)

I have started playing the beta version and I have heard that there is an update for it (i'm on steam, so it should downlaod it automatically right?) but i was wondering, will the fixes they have made be evident in my save that i started prior to the update coming out or do i have to start again?

Also, if i wait for the game to come out properlly how long is it until an update comes out for that usually?

fixes should be already on your started save game mate as soon as update was released, and usually gets patches few days after full game release.
