Can I play a network game without STEAM on a cracked game ..?

Hello, my and a friend of mine have downloaded the recently cracked game, and we wanna play together in a network game ..i understood that now hamachi is not needed, because it can be played throughout STEAM, but as i mentioned we own a cracked game and even when i setup my host, he and i cant find each other ..
