The third round of the Carling Cup starts tonight.

Undoubtedly the biggest tie of the Round is the Hge North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will utilise the match and the cup yet again for his young players to stake their claims. Meanwhile New Tottenham signing Rafael van der Vaart is likely to make his home debut for the club against Arsenal in the Carling Cup. The Dutchman reckons Spurs can see off the Gunners and finish above them in the league too. He said: "I think we have a good chance to win against them. And not only win the game against them but also, over the whole season, we can aspire to beat them."

There are also two Lancashire Derbies as Bolton take on Releagted Burnley and Wigan take on Preston. Burnley manager Brian Laws admits Owen Coyle's return to the club has given his side`s Carling Cup third round clash with Bolton added spice. Laws said: "Everyone knows what a fantastic job Owen Coyle did at Burnley and there has to be credit where credit is due. I hope the supporters give him the applause he deserves, but clearly there is a lot of heartache there and this has added a little bit more spice to it."

Scunthorpe take on Manchester United at Glanford Park and Scunny expect their Carling Cup third round clash with Manchester United to be a complete sell-out. The terrace section is now sold out, and there are only a handful of single seat tickets left in the Telegraph Stand and the Grove Wharf area of Glanford Park. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has pencilled in their Carling Cup tie with Scunthorpe United as Bebe's debut. The £7m summer signing is approaching full fitness after scoring for Portugal Under-21s last week.

New Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier will take charge of the club for the first time in their third round Carling Cup match against Blackburn. Blackburn got into the last 4 of The cup last year. Also Richard Dunne is poised to miss out on Houlliers Villa Debut.

Brentford forward Robbie Simpson admits the excitement is already building for his side’s Carling Cup clash with Premier League Everton later this month. He said: "When the draw was made, everyone was happy. They are a European team with a number of fantastic players. The atmosphere at Griffin Park is amazing anyway, so imagine what it will be like if it is a sell-out. It will be exciting just to play in the game, let alone win it."

Northampton take on Liverpool in round 3 and Northampton chairman David Cardoza has revealed that the Carling Cup trip to Liverpool will balance the budget for the season. He said: "We have worked really hard over the last few years to sort out the financial side of the club and this draw means that we are now covered for money for the rest of this season. It keeps our head above the water for the foreseeable future and going into next season we will be self-sufficient which is fantastic. I am sure we will take a good few thousand fans up to Anfield and we deserve it."

Elsewhere Sunderland take on West Ham, West Brom take on Filthy Rich Man City and Stoke play Fulham in the other three all Premier League ties.

And finally Birmingham take on MK Dons with The Blues Clear favourites, but it has being reported that some of Milton Keynes Camp are fairly confident of an upset.

Penniless Portsmouth take on Leicester City at Fratton Park and Pompey are upbeat about the tie and are hoping to progress to the next round. Foxes Manager Paulo Sousa says he expects a win from his side and is hoping for some momentum to build on their average start to the season.

Millwall test their sintilating home form with a tie against high flyers Ipswich.

Peterborough host Swansea and Premier League Wolves host League 1 Notts County.
