Sporting CP - DC

I have now finished a season with Sporting CP and I sold Liedson to Chelsea mid-season (i know im an idiot :'() and the thing i noticed near the ending (because i was always drawing matches after my loss against Juventus at ECC) is that when Tonel is playing the other defender (either Polga or Carriço) doesnt do anything (usually playing 5.?) and Tonel is my best DC.
With this said I want to renovate my defence and I have about 9M€
Update: Sold Carriço for 4,5M to Man Utd. But then bought Amorebieta and Joppen so now I have near 5M€

If I play 4-3-2-1 I cant use both Veloso and Moutinho, altough in my game Veloso doesnt do anything i'm thinking of selling him
Either way that doesnt solve my defence problem

I think I would sell Liédson as well, he's too good but the age is pretty **** hard
I think that you can get Guus Joppen, he's a Dutch CB and he's good to play in "our" Sporting...he as 19 years, problably 20 now...Our maybe Thiago Heleno from Cruzeiro, I like him as well...

Carriço only played well for me when he was with Polga and Polga is ****. I used to select Carriço and Tonel and only Tonel would play well. That's why I sold Carriço
Plus, Mandzukic is a forward...
