1. Staff

Assistant Manager and other Coaching Staff

The key attributes needed when considering your current staff:-
Man Management (not essential for Youth Coaches)
Working with Youngsters
Determination
Level of Discipline
Motivating

Additional attributes that might be useful:-
Tactical Knowledge
Judging Player Ability
Judging Player Potential

NB: If a member of the coaching staff doesn’t speak the language then he needs high adaptability

Attributes needed for each training category
Strength and Aerobic – Fitness
GK: Shot Stopping and Handling – Goalkeepers
Tactics – Tactical
Ball Control – Technical and Mental
Defending – Defending and Tactical
Attacking – Attacking and Tactical
Shooting – Attacking and Technical

Scouts

Key attributes:-
Adaptability
Determination
Judging Player Ability
Judging Player Potential
Tactical Knowledge

There are four styles of scouts needed to guarantee success, with their key attributes:-

The Explorer Scout is essential to any clubs expansion; the necessary attributes are Adaptability and Determination. These scouts are used to enhance your scouting knowledge. They should be used to explore unknown territory. This increases your youth recruitment and also the amount of players that appear in your searches.
The
Tactical Scout is a useful scout, to help you with your next opposition and how they play. The necessary attributes for this are Determination, Judging Player Ability and Tactical Knowledge; the scout also needs either knowledge in the area your opposition plays in or good adaptability to gain that knowledge.

With the use of the Explorer Scouts finding untapped talent the
Key Signing Scouts and Prospect Signing Scout come into play, as you may come to notice not all scouts have the ability to do all of these jobs, so these two scouts are used to decide if the Explorer Scouts findings are good enough to purchase and then the Explorer Scouts are used to decide on the bid amount and likelihood whether the player is interested. Obviously the key attributes are Judging Player Ability and Judging Player Potential.

NB: Having scouts that can judge ability and potential as well as explore new areas will help you make your decisions quicker. Never use scouts in areas they are uncomfortable; always look at their already acquired knowledge and their ability to adapt to new areas.

Physios
Key attributes:-
Physiotherapy
Determination
Motivation
Determination
Man Management
Working with Youngsters

NB: Like always if the guy can’t speak the language he needs to be quick to adapt

Training Schedules

Firstly, their are three options

Individual Training Schedules
Team Training Schedules
Positional Training Schedules

All 3 have their pro's and con's; and a successful manager will incorporate their own style.

Using the in game options, the best methods would be either a team training schedule or positional training schedule, individual schedules just aren't worth the time because it doesn't guarantee better results and your have the option to specialise an individuals training with the use of Individual Training Focus.

The Training Categories

Strength
Natural Fitness, Stamina, Strength and Work Rate

Aerobic
Acceleration, Agility, Balance, Jumping and Pace

GK – Shot Stopping
Reflexes, One on Ones, Composure and Concentration

GK – Handling
Aerial Ability, Kicking, Handling and Throwing

Tactics
Anticipation, Decisions, Positioning, Off The Ball, Teamwork
Command of Area (GK), Communication (GK) and Rushing Out (GK)

Ball Control
Dribbling, First Touch, Technique, Flair and Heading

Defending
Tackling, Marking and Concentration

Attacking
Passing, Creativity and Crossing

Shooting
Finishing, Long Shots and Composure

NB:
With the above information you can see that the most important training schedule for every position is Tactics, as this it teaches them to read the game, how to move and how to make good decisions. In addition to Tactics; during pre-season training the most important category would be Strength.

Team Schedules

Using three modern successful managers in the English game.

Sam Allardyce
Defensive Counter Attacking Bolton Side
The training schedule would be high in the categories of Strength; Tactics; Defending; and Shooting; and Medium in Ball Control and Attacking; whilst Aerobic was on light training.

Arsene Wenger
Arsenal's beautiful style of play it's attacking and possession football at its best.
The training schedule would be intense Tactics and Attacking; high ball control and the rest on medium.

Jose Mourinho
Chelsea - Power, Muscle and Controlled play
The training schedule would be
Intense Tactics; high Strength and Ball Control; with the rest on medium with the exception of Aerobic which would be on light.

I'm not going to go into Positional Training Schedules as their are plenty of guides and downloads available already.

3. Squad and Transfers

3. Squad and Transfers

Assessing your squad

Firstly, I can't stress this enough!!
Don't assess your squad until you have a good Assistant Manager in place and let them help with your assessment.

Take into consideration, captaincy; fans favourites; and utility players.
Important factors to consider as essentially the players and the fans will decide your future, having a happy squad and players, that can play a few positions are key to success in any competition.

Transfers
Only advice is to sign what you need and not what you want... You don't want to bankrupt you club.
And to use your scouts effectively and take advantage of trials.

I know a few might not like this but, Wenger is the man when it comes to Squad Management, Transfers and effective methods of making profit (because at the end of the day, it's a business, and selling players makes just as much money as successful campaigns)

The Right Method of Squad Management and Transfer Policy
The Wenger approach

As mentioned above Managers often buy who they want and not what they need, at the end of the day your building a team, not just for now but for years to come.

When I say "building for the future", I mean putting aside your relegation battle, or your ambitions for European success and spending a majority of your time investing in young talent.
Young talent is always good.
It is and always will be an effective way of building a good side for a minimal fee, not everyone has the spending power.

Arsene Wenger's Young Guns

If we look at the squad of 2008, The squad is easily split into the three categories of Wenger's success, unfortunately for Wenger, his club is currently going through a transitional stage and he needs time to develop his squad back to this layout.

Experienced players(25+): Gallas, Toure, Lehmann/Alumnia, Rosicky and maybe even Gilberto.

Core of the team(21-25): Van Persie, Adebayor, Clichy, Flamini, Hleb and Eduardo.

Youngsters(U21): Walcott, Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner, Fabianski, Hoyte etc.

Wenger will continuously buys youngsters and some of them will one day fall under the 'Core of the team' category.

The present 'Core of the team' will become experienced players and the present 'Experienced players' will get sold, providing money for the new 'Youngsters', and filling in any other gaps in the category.

Also with this setup, it allows Wenger to use his squad to help build for the future before offloading.
eg. Viera trained Diaby; Henry trained Walcott; Cole trained Clichy; the list goes on... but all of the experienced players have been sold after mentoring their own replacements, effectively.

Great tips, mate, especially for the scouts. One important note to add is the tactic one is going to use is very important. Once you see your squad and the depth it has, it is extremely money saving to apply the correct strategy so you do not have to waste money to buy new players in order to fill new positions and roles.

this is a quality post, thanks a lot! will use this in my new save with chelsea!

Thanks, bin working hard on it for a while. I reckon for the new FM i will make a complete guide...

Cheers, I am currently going through the tactics. It will be massive and I am considering doing sub sections, within the category, also I'm going to test the capabilities of the HTML feature... to help me fit it all on one post lol

amazing guide.Scouting and transfers Amazing.Looking forward to next part!

So for a successful scouting setup would this be advised??? For example if my club allows 9 scouts....

1 tactical scout with +15 attributes of Determination, Adaptability, Tactical Knowledge and Judging Player Ability
1 prospect scout with +15 attributes of Determination and Judging Player Potential
1 key signing scout with +15 attributes of Determination and Judging Player Ability
6 explorer scouts with +15 attributes of Determination and Adaptability

I am assuming I get 6 explorer scouts with different area knowledge and send them out to find players?
Then use my prospect scout to find out what their potential is?
Then use my key signing scout to find out how much he will cost and if he would join my club?

Pretty, much hit the nail on the head, but the explorer scout can scout anywhere as he will adapt, but always be wary when he knowledge bar isn't full as the detail may not be 100% accurate, but that's where the prospect and key signing scouts help out

On the subject of training, I'm trying to use the Arsenal schedule you've outlined here, and it's seeming like it's too much for the players (though this is very early on in the season). Any advice you can give on this?

Ignore them, they'll get used to it.

That's not strictly true, if you have a scout with a full knowledge of spain, he will compile a report in day or so and miss regens. Sending scouts into totally new areas/countries provides a far more in depth report covering regens. On the other hand if you need a quick job on country doing then someone with full knowledge is needed, but they do still miss out tons of players. IMO I would do the oppositie of what you said XD x

Try two schedules for them one pre-season and the then during season(already done ARS schedule), reduce the fitness by one on each and then make a pre-season one that way your players won't get as tired or unhappy with during season training but you are more likely to get injuries pre-season, NB:- they will getting match fitness quicker thou...if unscaved

If you look at it, I said to use your scouts that have high adpptability in new areas but not to always trust the judgement of scouts that dont have the required knowledge when looking for talent.

ie. If your explorer scout(high in adaptability) recommends a player, then you scout him with someone with higher judging abilities and then the knowledge of the area would be not essential but would certainly help when deciding fees etc.

That was all... If your lucky enough to have scouts that are high in all 4 key areas then my methods are a bit pointless, this is a guide for players wanting to do more with less of a budget, hence...[h=1]"long and successful career or club reign"http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/foot...nted-long-successful-career-club-reign-2.html[/h]

Or you could just sign scouts with the highest attributes for Judging player ability and potential and trust what they say? I personally dont see adapdability as important

Isnt this also needlessly over complicating the scouting process? If someone has a small budget then having scouts which arent that good at judging players is a but counter productive, surely?
