Help! Best Central Midfield Roles?

I have these players for Man Utd, my whole team are doing quality, but the 2 central midfielders are barely scraping 7's...

These are my central mids;

Andrea Poli - Very high stats
Micheal Carrick - Very high stats
Darren Fletcher - My top performer, still only averages 7.1
David Beckham - Good solid backup
Darron Gibson - Good solid attacking stats
Anderson - Again good stats, poor long range, but everything else good
Zakaria Labyad - Good prospect, good stats for his age
Kevin - Huge prospect
Jonathan Dos Santos - Good stats, needs training though

I currently have a deep lying playmaker (carrick or fletcher) and an advanced playmaker (poli or anderson) but get very mixed results, with barely any goals coming from the middle 2...

Any tips? I can provide screenies if needed...

Would prefer one defensive and one attacking...

Personally I wouldn't play an "attack" based midfielder, probably deploy Carrick as a deep lying playmaker with a support duty, and make full use of Fletcher's immense teamwork, workrate and stamina and deploy him as a box to box midfielder, which produced good results for me. Nevertheless (and by saying this I'm guessing you play two wingers and two strikers), with that I'd probably put focus passing as "Down Both Flanks", with the lack of an attacking midfielder. Alternatively, drop a striker back to DMC and play his as a Defensive Midfielder with a Defend duty, with Fletcher as Box-To-Box and then have another player as Advanced Playmaker with an Attack duty.
