My FM 13 just will not install, please help!

I brought FM13 on disc and put it into my mac, go to install and then steam comes up with 'updating steam' and starts to download, but everytime when it reaches around 25,000kb of 39,479kb it comes up with 'steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again' everytime. Is this just my internet being rubbish or is there a problem?

Try to download all the data through Steam, so don't use a disc to install.
