Hostilities resume in the Tyne-Wear derby after a season's absence in which Sunderland enjoyed the rare luxury of being able to look down a division on their bitter rivals Newcastle.

Despite taking 4 points from 6 off Newcastle in the 2008/09 season the last win Sunderland took from ther halloween opponents was courtesy of a big header from legend Niall Quinn way back in 2000.

Chris Hughton has announced that both centre backs Stevn Taylor and summer man Sol Campbel ill miss thematch and join Hatem Ben Arfa, Leon Best, Steve Harper an Dan Goslin on the sidelines.

Frazier Campbell misses out for the black cats however Keiran Richardson returns after neary a month out.

Darren Bent has been in scintilatng form for Sunderland tis season scoring most of their goals, 7 in total.

Likewise Andy Carroll is in decent form with five league goals this season and the rangy youth product of Tyneside finally looks to be settling down scoring goals in return for his regular starts.

Newcastle's reintroduction to Premier League football has been impressive. They joined Sunderland in the top half of the table following their Andy Carroll-inspired victory at West Ham, and a win on Sunday would not only restore local bragging rights but offer the added incentive of leapfrogging the Black Cats in the table.
