After attempting a Watford story that was out done by maxwell I decided to take up a different type of challenge. I decided to go on holiday until January and then take over a struggling Premiership team and try and save them from the drop. Below is the Premiership table from the 9th of Jan 2010.

After looking at the table I decided, that given their current bank balance Portsmouth would be the hardest challenge. So on the 10th Jan 2010 I have officially taken over at Fratton Park from Avram Grant, who stepped down after a poor run of results seen Pompey lie in the drop zone of the Premier League 5 points from safety.

I currently have taken over at Portsmouth who are currently in 19th position with only 16 games to go of the current season. Portsmouth are currently in the middle of a board take over and are looking for new owners who can secure the clubs finances. The club also has debts that exceed £75,000,000, which mean their is a transfer restriction placed by the board.

Below is the current squad that i have inherited and will have to use to steer the club to safety. The squad currently lacks quality all over the field and with the transfer restriction in place I will only be able to strengthen is loan players. I will also be looking to sell a few players that are on high wages in order to free up some money to pay wages for loan players and try an improve the clubs finances.

Fratton Park

I will be hoping that in the remaining 16 games we can relay on the Fratton Park faithful to get behind us especially at home an give us the confidence to reach our potential.

A Managers View

I am fully aware of the position the club is in and we all no we must all pull together for the 16 cup finals we have left. If we manage to avoid the drop we hope this will make the club more appealing for investors to come in and save the club from the mess it is in. Although the off the field problems are well documented we must not let it get to us on the field and hope the top men at the club get something sorted out quickly. My first game will be away to Burnley on the 16th and I am extremely looking forward to getting started. After looking at the squad I have identified the key players I will be relaying on in this relegation dog fight.

David James

Since joining the club I have made the England keeper my captain and I really hope we can be a big leader on the pitch.

Frederic Piquionne

He is currently the clubs leading Goal scorer this season with 7 goals and I will be counting on the French man to deliver further goals this season and have set him a target of 15 goals for the season.

Jamie O Hara

The midfielder is currently on loan from Spurs and I hope he can make a big influence on the games that we have left with his creative talent.

I will be doing monthly updates with player of the months, goal of the months injury updates and managers view. I will also be updating any other major news in the world of football.

Hopefully there will be updates before i'm back from Reading Newcaste?

I have done well with Pompey before :), use Direct attacking play - As I always says: If you are going down, Then go down fighting! :)

Direct attacking? What do you mean? And correction I am challenging you :P Hope you stay up though, just terminate Piquonne's loan, waste of wages ;)

January Update

Since joining the South Coast club I have been in charge of 4 games during the month of January. 3 Premiership games and 1 FA cup tie.

Burnley 1 Portsmouth 1 Fletcher (83) - Piquionne (22) Premiership

My first game in charge was a bit of a scrappy affair but the fight the team showed was great. We defend well throughout and our only regret from the game was we where 7 minutes away from leaving with all 3 points. However it is a good away point and we will move on from here MOM - KP Boateng

Preston 2 Portsmouth 2 Parkin (90) (90) - Smith (1) (9) FA Cup 4th Round

We played really well here and where cruising up until 90 minutes when we where hit with 2 sucker punch goals from Parkin. There where plenty of positives up until the late goals and at least we are still in the cup MOM - Tommy Smith

Portsmouth 5 Hull 2 Smith (15) (51) Ben-Haim (29) Piquionne (37) Basinas (90) - Geovanni (pen 40) Fagan (63) Premiership

What a first game at Fratton Park the atmosphere was electric and the team where simply outstanding. We dominated the game and deserved our 3 goal cushion. If we continue to play like this I am confident we can beat the drop. MOM - Tommy Smith

Portsmouth 0 West Ham 1 Faubert (45) Premiership

A every even game with very few chances. West Ham will be delighted with the win because in truth no team deserved 3 points. Was a let down after the Hull performance but we will come again. The result is also my first defeat as Pompey manager :( Portsmouth's Best - KP Boateng

Player of the Month - Tommy Smith

The striker has scored 4 goals in 4 games and has been a throne in the side of every defensive we have played. I hope we can continue his goal scoring form for the rest of the season.

Injury Update

We received a major set back this month as on loan midfielder Jamie O Hara had a training ground incident which resulted in a broken leg. Since O Hara is out for months the club has terminated his loan to help with wages

Managers View

Bar the west ham result I have been very happy with the teams performance and I am happy that we have added 4 more points to our tally. We now sit 2 points from safety and I will be asking the players for another big push next month. We are also still in the cup an the dream of 2008 is still alive :D There is still no word on the takeover front but I am lead to believe their are people working night and day to get something sorted out.

Will do the January Transfer Update Later...Let me no what you think of the format :D

Great results mate, any signings?
