The 3-5-2 is a good one to counter the 4-4-2. You have 2 centre backs taking care of their 2 strikers with one left to mop up. You out number them in the middle as well.

i normally read the scout report . See what formation they played against and the goals scored against them. Then i take my plug and ply tactic tweak it a bit and wupti it works. Look at were they score from and were on the pitch goals are scored against them. The make u OPP instrucyions on 2-3 players and exploit there weakness. It really works wonders

4-5-1.

have your normal back 4. Have your strongest forward up front and the other 2 forwards on the wings. Then your midfield 3 in the middle. With this 3 you can counter the 2 in a 4-4-2 and dominate the middle of midfield which is where the game is won. The wingers mark the opposing wingers and when going into attack they push up almost into a 4-3-3 which is quite an attacking formation. But the key is in the middle of midfield. You could even take the forwards out of wing and bring in a specialist winger. Up to you.

thanks for advices. i solve the problem with 42211 i mean; 2dc 2fb 2cm 2winger 1am and 1poacher. one of my CMs is box to box mid. and the other one is ball winning mid. and the player who plays on AM position is playing advanced playmaker. thanks everybody again.

I usually play 4-4-2, and sometime play with a Diamond. However a couple of years ago I was really struggling against teams who played 4-4-2, and designed a tactic which counter acted it brilliant. The tactic revolved around soaking up the pressure, taking possession and then releasing the ball quickly on the counter. It has 2 CB's, 2 WB's with a DM, 2 MC's, an AMC and two ST's. The DM had to be a tank, somebody to break up the play but with the technical ability to switch play into space (Viera, Keane, De Jong?) with quick fullbacks who can run up and down the line all day. The midfields need to be able to roam into the space on the wings too. I'd imagine that in FM12, you'd need one of the strikers to be a target man, with the other a poacher or an advanced forward. The formation lines up as demonstrated below.
