Using overlaps and space

I must confess before I start that I am in the middle of a game with the video set to extended highlights so I haven't looked into this much but.......

Having just started watching games in extended mode (to slow down the game a bit) my players are missing so many 2 on ones and opportunities to put other players into space.

I am using a classic tactic so can't request players pass the ball into space. Also, I am playing as arsenal and have Podolski and Walcott on the wings so appreciate neither are creative wingers.

Does anyone else find this and is there a way of changing it/ training players to be more aware?

Have now had a look and I can't find an option for players to play and early pass which is what I need them to do. Would cross from deep and setting run with ball to rarely have the same effect?

Any help much apprectiated!
