Steam being very awkward, HELP?!

Just got my copy of FM13 (disc)

I opened Steam but it says 'updating' but the bar doesnt move and after a while it says I need to connect to the internet, which I am, obviously otherwise how could I get on this site?!

Im using an O2 dongle, hasnt been an issue before, why now?! Im so angry/frustrated and NEED to play FM13

thats your problem right there...phone company's internet are pretty ****, i had 3 before and my god the worst internet i've ever had
