Probably the best bit of advice there. Even just be friendly with their managers to get your relationship to "feels the two of you could become friends", makes it a lot easier to get loans and also arsenal/united/city have got some great youth who i have happened to also get for my Rochdale...
Like everyone else said try the fines and stop diving in to tackles tactic BUT you can calm them down which will obviously mean less stupid agressive tackles getting them booked and sent off. Get a player with low aggression, high influence and high determination to tutor Cattermole or whoever...
