4-4-1-1: The REAL 4-4-2 (or How I Learned to Play the Triangle)

Excellent write-up. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Will follow your Diary of a season thread as well.

I have watched ManU's preseason games (and have a fascination with VG) and after adding players to fit and then some tinkering through my pre-season my heat map and general style of play is pretty spot on to what I see from ManU. I am 3 games into the start of my season and 3-0 with 2 clean...

    Cannot adapt to opponent successfully

Igneos79 - do you play the same way for each match changing nothing? I am curious how you approach the game

Slowly learning about counter attacking (sort of a guide)

Great Write-Up ... I hope you add more as you see what happens

    Post Your Frustations Thread

I have not read through this entire thread but for the first time ... I actually stopped playing an FM version until the final patch (hopefully) address the big issues. I simply got tired of putting in hrs I am supposed to be having fun with and instead find myself flabbergasted. If you dare...

FEBRUARY - TIED 1st (0) - 14W-10D-4L 52pts January was a blah blah month. We end up tied for the top spot and lost in the FA Cup. I am not sure how I feel about the FA Cup really. Eh, whats is matter. It's over. So we come to February which see's Forest play SIX league matches. A make or...

Why can't FM tactics reflect real life tactics just a little bit??

Just to further clarify my post a little bit, since I rarely speak of my own tactical views, here is how I have come to "play" the game.... For example in my 5-3-2 (2 WB, 3 CD, DM, 2 CM, 2 ST) If I am playing a stronger team ... I will field a physically stronger CML who is better at...

Why can't FM tactics reflect real life tactics just a little bit??

I personally find FM-13 to be the most realistic version yet. I whole hardheartedly agree with Mike saying "no need to play with the sliders". From my own 3300+ gaming hours in this version alone I can finally finally finally finally say ... I get it. I understand it now. When you create a...

How to tell if your opponent is playing wide or narrow etc?

Yes but when watching the game ... how can you tell? It does not seem obvious to me you know? Also is there an obvious way by observing the heat map perhaps?

A few things I have learned (open for discussion)

What about a mid table finish? Hahaha Balanced/Standard perhaps?

How to tell if your opponent is playing wide or narrow etc?

One of the things (of many) I am struggling to cope with is adjusting properly to the AI as the game progresses. I find many times I can lock them down in the beginning but eventually the AI will change formation and I get stumped/outsmarted and end up conceeding late. So I ask the following...

A few things I have learned (open for discussion)

I am going to take your advice and implement it. I have been struggling like many people but have not given up. I have read countless posts and documents etc and this one resonates for me. I like your theories. I have been using Sheffield Wednesday and will post back here tomorrow to let you...
