Finally got a reply from steam.
Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Exit Steam. Navigate to your SteamApps folder (~/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/) and delete your sourceinitosx.gcf file. Restart Steam and test the issue.
Ok. On the link I mentioned above. I tried the other patch for mac before the one I mentioned but it kept asking for a disk so I deleted it then ran the other as per above and it worked. Could try that? Mind. Delete all the files first.
