Why offensive players (AML, AMR, CS) have passing style set into "direct" and midfielders into "mixed" - not into short? What would the play looks like with short passing for whole team?

What combination of those parameters do you prefer in your tactics? Down to logic short passing + slow tempo + narrow game / direct passing + fast tempo + wide game are optimally combinations, but when I'm looiking through tactics on this Forum, there's small group of tactics with slow...
I'm using similar setup, but I set a striker to atack goalkeeper, and second-best header at the near post (best header is often shoting the ball there and he's finishing).
Subotić in my BVB game have a 14 goals in 21 matches. I'm using him to run into a far post.
Is it recommended to use "thight marking" with DC's? I've problem with set my defensive line - players seems to be helpless, especially in crosses into my penalty area.
