Just had a look myself and i make you right, guess i was thinking of increasing staff wages as opposed to just player wage budgets.
I guess it has to do with the stature of your club, ambition/competitions and board expectations aswell as income generated..?
I was pleased to see Wenger stay on as DoF when starting an arsenal save, he would normally stay in obscurity for a year then retire in previous FM's. Playing as another team he would always retire after the first 1/2 seasons, also (after winning CL in most cases (6)).

Fiddling with my own tactics and had a pretty rough pre-season with Sparta, losing to teams i should have beat comfortably. Switched to this for my opening league game and got a 2-0 win.
