for weaker teams than mine i use 3 strikers, a technically gifted one as a deep-lying forward, with attack, a big guy as a target man and a quick striker as a poacher.

It all depends what you're setting them as. Using carroll as a target man, will get the best out of him but maybe limit his goalscoring, but with gerrard as you inside forward you may get a lot of goals out of him with carroll nodding back. Suarez in my opinion cannot operate as a lone striker...
Its not really a pair but i currently dont have any effective wingers, so im currently playing 4-3-1-2 with 3 central midfielders.
