What player instructions should I give to a player to enable him to have the free role?

Is there any point in this thread? It's just question after question with no answers.

I'm in jan in my second season with United and I'm having this problem. I've tried dropping Fletchers down to 2.5 and still no one will buy him, he was valued at 10m when I first listed him.

How do I set a player to have the free role? Is it more than just selecting roam from position?
