Give it a try and see what happens. What works for me is tall forwards with good jumping reach. They're usually able to cut out balls over the top.

Bernardo Silva (AS Monaco) is unstoppable in the MR position. He usually gets transfer listed too and becomes available quite cheaply early on in a save. Amazing player, gets dozens of goals plus dozens of assists every season using this tactic.
