Nothing works consistently. I've had some success calling out individual players but then I've also been burned by doing it too. Normally that has good results if they're playing a weaker backup for an injured starter.

Like StueyRob said, put the mentality and creative freedom down. Personally I set mentality to fully defensive for the CBs and have no creative freedom for them either. Some other things I noticed, the CBs are set to short passing. I hope that the keeper has his passing set to mixed at least...

Sounds like your players don't deal with pressure very well. I have similar problems crop up now and then where my squad struggles when they're the favourite. Usually its just a matter of figuring out how to motivate them.

Play a 4-4-1-1 as well but score more? Sounds like a good DM or two would solve your problems defensively. Can't really say much without knowing what you're already playing, key players, etc.

Until you can push your club's rep higher (and that might mean pushing your league's rep too!) then you'll have to sign good youngsters and lock them in for as long as possible.
