In games which you know are gonna be tough (e.g away matches or games against the top 4 side), always play 4-5-1. Only play 4-4-2 when you know you stand a chance of winning.

From experience you won't earn that much so 42000 sounds pretty reasonable for winning the Championship! I know its pretty small but don't worry, in the Premiership you will earn at least 30m due to TV rights which will really boost your finance.
