I first started playing FM in 09 and got addicted i use to play as United but i got bored as i could sell players for 20mil and by decent players and win everything
So i chose my local team AFC Telford + they are the better team in the BSN, in FM09 i got to championship and moved over to united...

Worked it out:
Select the Selection column as main (Bright white arrow) then hold shift and select position and name and it puts a grey arrow above them
If anyone has this problem that is how to resolve, i had no idea what to search for or how to describe
