The last dance!
This was probably my final tactic for FM24 — because after this one, I’ve simply mastered the engine.
I secured 2nd place with Ipswich in my first Premier League season, suffering only three defeats.
The tactic is absolutely beautiful! A defensive trap that isolates opposition players, forcing them into misplaced passes and gifting us the ball — leading either to a deadly counter-attack or a smooth reset with the centre-backs, allowing for an elegant build-up.
The team creates varied attacking plays all the time, and goals are fairly well spread among the forwards. Naturally, the striker scores the most, but the midfielders and wide players also chip in regularly.
When building the squad, I recommend a tall central defender with good anticipation. For the wide centre-backs, focus on pace and passing. The wing-backs should be complete players — pace, crossing, passing, dribbling. The holding midfielder should be defensively solid, while the playmaker needs excellent passing and vision. The left central midfielder should also be a creative type — with strong passing, vision and dribbling — while the right-sided midfielder is more of a second striker: strong, tall and fast (Van Bommel is perfect for this role). The striker? The more complete, the better — but with good finishing, heading and a bit of pace, he’ll score loads!
