Hi everyone,

Greetings from Indonesia. This is the first time for me sharing tactics in Football Manager. Like the tile says, I am playing with 3 - 6 - 1 formation.

In my opinion, midfield is the most important thing in football because through midfield you can control both you attack and defense. The next question is how many midfields do I need ? 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 ? Since it's confusing I decided to put the minimum numbers possible in both defense and attack.

I put 3 in my defense, because in reality, there is no way you can play with only 2 defenders. I put 1 in my attack due to the same reason (False Nine is still counted as 1 attack though). That leaves me : 11 - 1 (GK) - 3 (DEF) - 1 (ATT) = 6 MID.

Next would be, what kind of midfield do I need to use ? Since goal is located at the center, the shortest path to the goal is through the center. Therefore, I decided not to use wide players at all (no DML/R, no ML/R, no AML/R). My only options are DM, M and AM. Since I only have 3 DEF, I choose 2 players to become DM to support my defense and I choose 3 AMC to support my lone striker. That leaves 1 MC to link AMC and DM.

DC
No man to man marking because I don't want to create holes in my defense. No stopper, no close down, no dive tackle, no tight marking because it may somehow create a hole. I am forcing the other teams to pass to feet or long shots (pass to space will easily be covered by zonal marking or will result in offside position). No risky passes and all short passes. It's all about possession football.

DM
Both are anchors and zonal marking. Pretty much the same with DC and it helps my DC to cover long shots. Special Instruction : DM must mark AI's AMLR, MLR, or AMCLR depending on their tactics. No risky passes and all short passes. It's all about possession football.

MC
Nothing special

AMC
Direct passes and risky passes to disrupt defenders. Pass to feet will be very minimum. Attacking with pass to feet is a big NO because it slows down the movement and will give time to AI to park the bus in front of their goals and GK will somehow become superman guessing your shots. Special Instruction : AMCR special mark AI's DL / DML and AMCL special mark AI's DR / DMR.

OI : ONLY to DLR, DMLR, MLR, AMLR (show onto Right / Left) to prevent CROSSES. CROSSING is the biggest enemy of this tactic. You must force AI to cut inside or pass the ball to center where you can easily intercept it.

ST
Nothing special
