Just wondering if anyone has had much luck with 3 central defenders?

Feel like making a new save when im home with young players but wasn't sure if i would leak alot of goals because i always use 4 defenders.

Any tips on formations based on 3 defenders from anybody?

Cheers

What the 3 at the back do will depend on what you have in front of them...I have had limited success with a LB, CB, RB combo with 2 DM's (1 Anchor Man, 1 DM Support)

I have also had a little bit of success with 3 at the back with two defensive wingers.

I think there is a way to have success with almost any type of formation, you just have to find how the mask the weak spots and accentuate the strengths.

I had the same thoughts. And decided to test out a formation with 3 defenders.

I used Juventus, and used a 3-2-3-2 formation, with 3 central defenders, 2DM, 3AM and 2St. Granted, i have Buffon in goal, and Chiellini in the middle of the defense, but it all worked great. I won the league, italian cup and european cup in the first season. My defense was my strength, only surrendering 20 goals in the league.

I can definitly recommend testing 3 defenders, since it is pretty fun, and worked great. Its also a nice change of pace as almost all tactics have 4 at the back. With my tactic, i didnt even have to bother finding good wingbacks. Just 3 central defenders.

Hope that helps!

3 - 4 - 3 is a good offensive tactic.

Use 2 defensive wingers if u r gonna play 3 at the back. Or use anchorman.

I sometimes use this tactic against weaker teams, with Mascharano as anchorman.

It also works well if you give orders as "drop deeper" and you have people with better ball control.
Also defenders with some pace. (Carra aaarrgh .. :( )

Also make sure one of the 3 defenders has a "cover" duty this helps

At the minute I'm playing a 3-1-2-1-3 with West Ham.

Currently first with 10 points out of 4 games scoring 10 goals and only conceding only 2 :)

I'd recommend giving it a go.

I'm in the first season, and in 10 games I've only lost to United.
