The Wabbajack!

General Notes:

  • My goal was to create a very effective tactic with my favored 4-1-2-2-1 formation. Nothing against some of these unorthodox formations, they just aren't my cup of tea.
  • This tactic as you can see employs the motto of a best defense is a good offense! I wanted to make a tactic that would allow us to control the match and enforce our will against any opposition home or away.
  • I also wanted to implement as well as I can with this match engine the Barcelona/Guardiola 5 second rule when we lose possession.
  • Basically the goal is to have a lot of the ball but have possession with a purpose and when we lose the ball to close down and put enough pressure on the opposition to force a mistake to win possession back. It is very common for us to have more passes complete than the opposition has attempted.
Tactics

I wanted to use a F9 as a striker to allow him to drop into midfield to open up space for my IF's to make runs into. This tactic plays very narrow and relies upon the WB's to offer width when attacking.

Player Notes:

WB's: These are key players within the tactic. They need pace and quickness to beat their marker and good crossing abilities to deliver balls into the box as a lot of the threat with this tactic relies upon them

CD: It is imperative that you use CB's with good pace/acceleration. The tactic uses a very high line and if you use slow CB's like Mertesacker they will get burned with counter attacks and long balls over the top. In my Arsenal save I had to not use him in important matches because Kocielney constantly had to cover for him

RPM/B2B/RGA: Need to have solid technical, first touch, and passing skills as you depend upon them to control the match and keep possession

Left IF: Right footed

Right IF: Left footed

Team Talks:

These are very important and can make the difference between a win and a loss.

Pre-match talk: Assertive -expect a win usually or pick up where you left off last match if you had a good result. If you had a player in the last game with a rating of 8 or better I will make an individual talk and say more of the same from you.

Half-time:
If losing: Agressive/Assertive - Where is your passion/show me something else
If tied: Assertive - I am not happy with your performance
If winning by 1 or 2 goals: calm - don't let your performance levels drop

End of match:
If lost or drawn: Agressive/Assertive - Not good enough
If we give up a late goal sometimes I will say we were unlucky
If we win by a good score: calm - I am happy with the result and the way you played

Results:

Firstly, this is by no means a perfect tactic and requires active intervention by the manager. I wouldn't recommend plugging this in and going to get a cup of coffee and come back and expect to be winning by 4 goals. It did however give me a Quintuple in my first year as Arsenal

So we get the most goals scored in the league, so offensively job well done. However, we also concede the fewest which I am still not quite sure how this happened. Maybe my goal of controlling the match and frustrating the opposition worked like a charm! Possession and passing is also the highest in the league

Training I leave on balanced team training and attacking movement match training. No OI's.

Some good PPM's I try to get:

WB's: knock ball past opponent, hug the touch line, get forward whenever possible.

CB's: Mark tighter

Playmakers: Dictate tempo

IF's: Cut inside from flank, get forward, move into channels

F9: Place shots, lob keeper when 1on1

perfect :) thank you. I am currently playing as Liverpool and so far so good but a few frustrating losses. I use balanced training and def positioning but i will defo try your setup. Thx for a great tac

You might get that before the tactic gets fluid. Hope it works out. I think def positioning isn't a good fit with this tactic. You don't want to play an offensive system and then try to train a little more defensively. If it works out stick with it, but I think Att movement will get better results. And you might run into the slow defender problem with Liverpool, I'm not sure how quick Skrtel and Sakho are

skrtel is 13 pace and Sakho 14. Bought mammana and will get illori back from loan who has a f***ing 17 in pace :O. Also have joe gomez so i get some decent results. Need to sell Skrtel and Lovren and bring in faster first team CB's

Keep acceleration in mind too. I think it's just as important. If their striker gets the jump on your CB's it doesn't matter if they have decent pace they won't catch up.

Very interesting tactic. We have similar styles of play and both use arsenal. my tactic struggles to hit the target. similar stats to yours but every shot is blocked or off target. how is your shooting accuracy overall

Well I think the AI blocks a lot of shots in general, more than we see in real football so it does happen. I don't seem to have an issue with it I think. I'll have to look at accuracy when I get home but it doesn't seem to be that low.

i think im a bit harsh in terms of shot accuracy. i just hate having 20 to 30 shots and getting between 5-12 on target. drives me insane

Im thinking out loud here but bear with me Sticx :P i will do a test to fiddle with the d-line. My losses always comes to teams that uses long balls over the defenders. They all have now minimum 14 acc and 14 pace. I will try to set the d-line to normal when playing against "long ball" teams and higher against "passing" teams. Will update with results

The tactic is fully fluid and after 10 games with the "tinkering" i have had great success (Borat alert haha) . 10 games - 10 wins. I look at the scout report before the game and if the opposing team use longballs to score goals i change my d-line to normal and untick the offside trap. I believe this is a temporary fix for my liverpool team with slow defenders (under 15 acc and 15 pace) but i do believe it can work for other teams as well. Agains all other teams (passing teams) i use your instructions and win every game. Wonderful work mate, i really love this tac. I am not a fan of 4-3-3 tacs but this one can make me a believer ;) Cheers from Sweden

Glad it's working out. Keep me updated with how things go! Btw, I gave you a wrong PPM for your IF. Instead of get forward what I meant was move into channels.

ah thx, gladly i have not come so far for my if's (coutinho and honda) they are currently training to cut inside. Thx for the info mate
