4-2-3-1 problem

My teams is as roma, i usually use 4-2-3-1 formation
the line up is:
Gk:doni
Wb:motta(R)riise(L)
Cb:Bruna alves, Mexes
Dmizarro,de rossi
Am:Menez(R)Totti(C)Vucinic(L)
Stzeko
i have problem,(first) my defenders always make mistakes and indolent, (second) my striker and second striker have a bad finishing if one on one with goalkeeper
Please tell me what i have to do????

Hi this thread will probably be closed soon but Ill try help now as I had same thing with my Villareal team.

This is what I did:

GK

DL (wingback) -support
DR (wingback) - support
DC (defender centre) - defend
DC (defender centre)- defend
DMC (deep playmaker) - defend
DMC (deep playmaker) - support
AML (winger) - support
AMC (attacking midfielder) - attack
AMR (inside forward) - attack
ST (poacher or sometimes advanced forward) - attack

It worked for me. I had a fast strike force in Rossi and Nilmar so it worked. I had Veloso and Senna as my DMCs both creative defensive mids and I was very strong defensively playing both of them. I played a fluid game, cautious tackling, standing off the players, short passing, attacking, expressive and lots of roaming.

Although I drew a lot of games I was hard to beat and only lost 3 games all season (once to Real and twice to Champions Barcelona). Made 4th place with 88 points.

I like your tactic, but cen you tell me the team and player instruction?
And what tactics when defense condition?

Well my team and tactic has changed since last year but it was.

I literally didnt change any player instructions just set their duties and roles as described above. When I wanted to play defensively I would change to counter with more pressing and direct passing. I also played Nilmar instead of Rossi from time to time. He's no poacher I put him advanced forward.
