Looking at the players, I am a bit confused as to what player roles to select and what players to fill those roles.

use JP's 4-2-3-1 http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/downl...o=file&id=1171, would suit your plays perfectly. ballack and essien box to box, rotate with mikel. lampard amc, rotate with deco. malouda cole zhirkov and kalou wingers. drogba/anelka up front.
