I use a poacher and advanced playmaker (behind main striker) would you say this would work?

not much to go on mate, you need to provide more details on other positions

4-2-3-1

FBx2 (Support), CBx2 (Def)

BWM (DEF), DLP (Support)

IF (S), AP(A), IF (S)

P(A)

BWM is a poor choice in 2 man midfield because he close down too much which result lots of space behind the midfield. CM(D) or DLP(D) is a better choice. You also need 1 fullback to attack so he will overlap and create movement between lines, I'd put an attacking FB or WB behind your IF. One of your IF also need to be attacking so there will be another threat for the opposition. Lastly, poacher isn't a good choice for lone striker.
My usual setup is this:
4-2-3-1

FB (Support), CBx2 (Def) WB ( A)

CM(DEF), DLP (Support)

W(S), AP (s), IF ( A)

AF

However I recently use 4-2-3-1 deep with DMs instead since it's much better defensively than the CM one

MY FB are actually automatic (both attack). I might consider changing the BWM actually.
