This is my first tactic for FM13, but its already a success. I decided probably months before the game release that Rangers would be a great shout to start as my first save (I like a long term challenge).

Reasons I went with Rangers:-
1. They are haemorraging money, so it will be a challenge to return them to financial stability
2. They have a great squad, fan base, stadium, facillities
3. Potential for developing youth is great, because they have good youth facillities and in the lower league you start in allows you to give them plenty of game time
4. To bring them back to their former glory!

Key players:-

View attachment 282554

N.Alexander - GK - Best goalkeeper in the league, takes something special to beat him - Average rating (to January) 6.94

View attachment 282552

L. Wallace - Very Good Left Back - Best player in the squad, wanted by EPL teams - Avg rating (to Jan) 7.04

L. McCulloch - DMC/MC/ST - Mostly play him in midfield - Great workrate and strong, influencial captain - Avg rating (to Jan) 7.02

TACTICS

Where to start.......

Formations, anyone that tried my genuine old skool 4-4-2 formation for FM12 will know i'm a fan of the 4-4-2.
So thats where I started again, but for this game I also decided to create a second tactic to use in parallel and on the most part I have used these like this. 4-4-2 for home games, 4-2-3-1 for away games.

4-4-2 for home games appears as below :-

.......................... GK .......................
........................................................
..... LB (S) .... LD ...... LD .... RB (S) ......
........................................................
... LW (Att) .. DLP (D) .. AP (Att) .. RW (Att) ..
........................................................
.............. DLF (S) ........ P (Att) .............

4-2-3-1 for away games appears as below :-

........................ GK ..........................
........................................................
.. LB (S) ... LD (D) ... LD (D) ... RB (S)...
........ A (D) ................ DLP (S) ..........
........................................................
.. LW (Att).......... AP (S) .......... RW (Att)..
..................... DLF (Att) .....................

Team Instructions, for both tactics I use the same team instructions.

Philosophy - Rigid
Strategy - Control
Passing Style - More Direct
Creative Freedom - More Disciplined
Closing Down - Press More
Tackling - More Cautious
Marking - Man Marking
Crossing - Default
Roaming - Stick to Position

Each dot represents a setting, the lines represents each block of settings e.g. for defensive line deep, normal, push up, the X represents the position of the slider.

Defensive Line: .....|.X...|.....
Width: .....|.....|..X..
Tempo: .....|....X|.....
Time Wasting ...X.|.....|.....

Focus Passing - Mixed
Counter Attack - No
Play Offside - No

Playmaker - Advanced Playmaker
Target Man - Deep Lying Forward
Target man Supply - To Feet

During the matches I will usually start with the shout - pass to feet

Limitations (at the moment) - This tactic need perfecting (help very welcome!) the issue I have at the moment is not the creation of chances, but we have large numbers of shots, usually 15 minimum, as many as 27, but many of them are off target! Saying that we have still scored by far the most goals in the league.

RESULTS

So far this season I have played 20 games in the league - with a record of 18 - 2 - 0, scored 46 goals, conceded 6.
Lost on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the challenge cup (playing youngsters), remain in the scottish cup, beat scottish division 1 side Dunfermline in the last round 4-3.

UPDATE 1!

Just a quick update to say that I have now won the Scottish Division 3 with Rangers, Currently 35 points clear with 10 games to go, won 24 drawn 4 lost 0!! So very close to an invincible season! Will bring you a last 5 games video on my Youtube channel to see if I can make it.

Another Big achievement was a win against Motherwell (SPL team) 1-0, which set up a semi-final scottish cup clash Away to Celtic!! Huge game!

WIN OR FAIL??

Another update to come and tactics to be added soon come back and check!

Check out my Youtube channel too video of a 4-0 win and 65%+ possession to be uploaded soon!

Just a suggestion, you might wanna disable smilies then we can see what your players are doing :)

willing to give this a try as its my preferred formation but in defence I tried a career with the rangers and must say the opposition is that poor you can play any formation to an extent

No harm in trying it. I'll test it on another team after I finish this season. Seems to be working against some stronger opposition in the cups tho :)

They in fact end up being able to offer enough wages to sign Arjen Robben and Yoann Gourcuff, and I saw them sign a player for 3 million who was quite average, in defense, with wages of 90k. Also Luke Freeman who is of Stevenage went there and was on 90k too.

alright mate, rangers aren't the right team to try tactics with. You can win the third easily with just about any formation without loosing a game.
Im not rubbishing your work, only pointing out i tried the same tactics that i used with rangers in a liverpool file, and it really shows up the shortcomings.
Your tactic might be spot, so let us know how you get on with a midtable team in a good league, which is always a good measuring stick.
Good luck mate.

The 4-2-3-1 looks good, and might try it myself in Cup games, though little confused where the sliders should be though, any chance of uploading the formation?

rangers are easy to play and be unbeaten XD View attachment 317143View attachment 317144
i was playing 442 and it was the same if i would put there my strongest team or the weakest...only challenge was games against celtic..out of 7-8 games i won i think 2-3 games and lost others
