424 not working in big matches

i am man united and play a formation of 424 its okay against teams .. but not against the big teams in big competitons anyone change a formation against big teams?? if so to what??

Surely the fact you've only got 2 in midfield must be the problem. Big games always center around the midfield battle. In a lot cases people would have 5 in midfield if they felt they would struggle. Sometimes I go for 4-2-2-2, with 2 defensive midfielders just in front of the defence, then 2 winger to go off on the counter attack.

Yea like Dickybran said, against bigger teams they are taking control of the midfield if you only have two in there. Dominate the midfield, dominate the match!

Switch to a 4-5-1

Play 3 across the midfield with 2 advanced wingers. If you need to hold a lead then drop a CM back to play as DM anchor man (Hargreaves/Carrick). If they're really coming at you revert to 4-1-4-1 counter attack (clear ball to flanks)
