I'm interested in feedback on how people are doing playing 5 at the back? I have periods of sustained success with my Sunderland side, before the team goes into a rut and I have to adjust things significantly.

I've had most success with the STOPPER - COVER - STOPPER combination, and complete wing backs. In alternate seasons I've moved this to COVER - STOPPER - COVER, but it isn't clear which strategy works best against whom and why?

I've also tried various striker combinations to see what works best with wing backs, usually settling for the usual DLF-S, AF-A combo, but would be grateful for thoughts on this too?

You really need to look beyond just 3. It will depend on the rest of the roles around them as well as the players' capabilities. I've had no issues with just a simple Defend duty spread across the back 3.

If you really want to be proactive, you could also vary your 2 suggested setups depending on the formation of the opponent.
