Werrett announced as Manager of Hyde FC

I am pleased to announce that I have been hired by Vanarama Conference North side Hyde FC, a team predicted to finish 12th in the table.

Hyde FC are on the back of a tough campaign having been relegated from the Skrill Premier last season and we will look to rebuild on that experience, ensuring that we do better next time round.

I am very pleased to be hired by a team before the start of the league campaign as this gives me a chance to build a team from the very start.

With a transfer budget of 10k we're in for a very long season, but nonetheless I am pleased to have landed on my feet so quickly.

The Squad:

View attachment 326737

Over the next month I'll be looking to maybe bring in a few more faces to bolster the squad.

Pre-Season:

After taking the job at Hyde FC I quickly realised that the squad needed a bit of bolstering, but due to the low finances set by the board I knew that loan deals would be the only way I could achieve this, and so I've made swift moves in the window to bring in a handful of players to give us that much needed depth.

View attachment 326654

I'm not usually a huge fan of loan deals but in the lower leagues it's definitely a necessity.

Results:

Our pre-season fixtures went well, we achieved 3 clean sheets in a row up until we took on the Manchester City U21's where we were on the end of a bit of a battering.

View attachment 326658

Nonetheless I feel confident going into the season, we have some great talent here and I feel confident that we can achieve our objectives that were set for us when we took the job.

Can't wait to get started!

August Update (2014):

August 2014..A month I would never forget, my first in Football Management..Was I nervous? Of course I was nervous, a poor season here and I might end up in lower league management forever, or even worse..I might be forced out of the management game, but I was excited..I had been training for this for a long time and I was ready to take the challenge by the horns and do my best, not just for me, but for this club.

Approaching the first game of the season we knew we had to start off strong, a tough campaign lay ahead of us and in order to get promoted back to the Conference Premier we needed to come out of the blocks firing.

Vanarama Conference North:

Season Opener:

Our first game of the season saw us take on Oxford City, a team who in recent years have climbed through the tiers of English Football and were ultimately now predicted to finish 8th, 4 places above us.

679 fans had turned up to Ewen Fields to witness this league opener and we knew we couldn't disappoint, especially in front of our home fans.

View attachment 326642View attachment 326641

Man of the Match: Connor Hughes (Hyde)

In the end we certainly didn't disappoint, kicking off the season with a 3-0 victory and an emphatic performance. Hyde FC wide-man Connor Hughes with an impressive brace as he took both chances that came his way. Loanee James Lawrie on loan from Altrincham also managed to get on the score-sheet from a corner, very impressive signs from a player we brought in to help bolster our quality in depth.

This result certainly gives us something to build on!

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #2

Our 2nd game of the season saw us take on North Ferriby away from home, off the back of a win we were hoping to continue winning ways.

The game got off to a rocky start when Matt Wilson put the home side 1-0 up after 4 minutes, we were slow coming out of the blocks and paid the price early on.

Regan Walker bagged our equaliser on 38 minutes when he toe'd the ball past Adam Nicklin, the Ferriby keeper.

The game ultimately ended 1-1, not a bad result as we extended our away run and away games are never easy, certainly something to build on.

Man of the Match: Matt Wilson (North Ferriby)

Attendance: 381

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #3

Our 3rd game of the season saw us take on Barrow at Holker Street, predicted 3rd by the media we knew we were facing a struggle going into this game, but we were hopeful.

Altrincham loanee Jake Moult put us 1-0 to the good after 4 minutes, a great start as we silenced the home support early on.

Barrow showed their quality though as they scored twice in 3 minutes to regain the lead, Johnny Gorman netting the first from close range and Ted Cribley glancing home from a corner to double the home teams tally.

This is how the game would finish, our first loss of the season albeit an expected one.

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #4

Our fourth came of the opening month saw us take on Colwyn Bay at Ewen Fields, after only achieving 1 point out of 6 in our past two games we were looking to bounce back.

Steven Tames got us off to a flyer, the young Striker scoring in the 11th and 12th minute to give us an early 2-0 advantage, clinical finishing from the young forward.

Tames then managed to bag his hat-trick and the match ball on 53 minutes when he converted from a Sam Patterson cross, a delightful flick beating the keeper at his near post.

Young playmaker Louis Almond sealed the rout on 56 minutes when he rifled home from 20 yards to beat Ollerenshaw at the far post, a beautiful goal and a priceless victory!

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #5

For our 5th game of the season we took on highly touted side Bradford PA at the Horsfall Stadium, a side predicted to finish 5th we knew we had to be at our best to get anything from the game.

Bradford PA elected to play a strange formation, a 3-5-2 variant with a sweeper and two center backs as opposd to the standard 3 central defenders and a flat 5 in midfield, the tactics here were to exploit the flanks as we knew their CBs would have a hard time dealing with our wide play.

We managed to bag 5 in this game through 5 different scorers, a wonderful team effort which was rounded off by a Steven Tames goal, his 4th in 2 games.

Bradford PA midfielder James Derbyshire did pull one back for the home side but it proved to be little more than a consolation goal, a 5-1 victory the result as we bagged back to back victories.

Man of the Match: Regan Walker (Hyde)

Attendance: 269

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #6

Our final game of what had proved to be a very tiring month was a home tie to Tamworth, a team predicted 2nd as we continue our tough month of playing some of the biggest teams in the league but on the back of 2 wins, we felt confident.

This wasn't to be though as Tamworth completed a 1-0 victory, Veteran midfielder Phil Trainer bagging the only goal of the game after 23 minutes as both teams failed to create many chances.

A poor performance to cap what had been a very promising month, my first in management.

As you can see, after 6 games we currently find ourselves in 7th place, only a point shy of the play-off places. I have full faith that we can break into these positions over the next few months as August paired us up against some very tough teams, but I'm enjoying managing Hyde FC, it's been a very good start to the season.

Here is an overview of the results from the month:

A brilliant month for our young striker as he managed to bag 4 goals in 2 starts (1 sub appearance) netting a hat-trick along the way. If we're to do well in this league, we certainly need a prolific striker and Tames looks set to take that role.

September Update (2014):

Our second month in charge, September came around very quickly following a 6 game month in August, laying just outside the play-off spots we needed to gain some momentum.

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #7

Our first game of the month saw us take on Gloucester City away from home, following the loss at the end of August I was hoping we could come together and get a good result out of this game.

Steven Tames, our prolific scorer got us off to a great start after 22 minutes, placing his shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Billy Jones missed the chance to equalise for Gloucester as he had his penalty saved by Manchester City loanee Bill O'Brien, a great save by our young keeper!

Louis Almond put the nail in the coffin when he converted from close range in the 85th minute to double our advantage, we were going home with 3 points!

Man of the Match: D'arcy O'connor (Hyde)

Attendance: 234

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #8

Our second game of the month saw us play at home against Hednesford, a team predicted to finish 4th in the table so we knew it was never going to be an easy game.

Connor Hughes gave us the lead on 40 minutes, a curled finish from 12 yards beat the keeper at the back post, we were ahead!

Glenn Walker answered us in the 70th minute as he nodded home a Hednesford corner to make it 1-1.

Walker was also the man who scored the match winner, a fantastic 30 yard shot after we failed to get the ball away following a corner, we were poor defensively and ultimately deserved the loss.

Man of the Match: Glenn Walker (Hednesford)

Attendance: 587

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #9

Off the back of a poor performance against Hednesford we traveled to Brackley to take on the mid-table side at St. James Park, we needed to bounce back.

This game was incredibly dull, both teams failing to do anything offensively with the ball, it looked like a mid-table clash as excitement was lacking in every sense.

The only goal of the game came when D'arcy O'connor sliced a cross into his own net to give the home side a 1-0 victory.

Another poor performance and back to back losses, this wasn't good enough.

(Despite scoring an own goal he managed an 8.7 rating!)

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #10

Our final league game of the month saw us take on Lowestoft at Ewen Fields, we were looking here to bounce back from our back to back defeats as we were slowly beginning to fall down the table.

The game started off slowly, both teams playing patient football without any real conviction, this was until Regan Walker slotted home a Louis Almond pass to make it 1-0 to the home side, Louis Almond was a provider turned goalscorer when he converted a shot of his own after forcing an error from the Lowestoft defence, 2-0 up at half-time, brilliant stuff!

Rossi Jarvis pulled one back for the away side shortly into the 2nd half, but the game once again went into a lull as we sat back and defended our 2-1 lead for the remaining 36 minutes, a comfortable 2-1 win and 3 more points!

FA Cup:

2nd Qualifying Round

Our final game of the month saw us take on Isthmian division side Wroxham away from home in the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup, although our priority isn't on Cup football, it would be ideal to generate some extra revenue for the club.

Josh Simper put the home-side ahead 6 minutes in after a poor defensive effort from our back-line, once again we had started slowly.

James Lawrie equalised for us 8 minutes later as he latched onto a Louis Almond through ball before slotting it past the Wroxham keeper.

Despite our attacking threat we failed to get on the score-sheet again meaning the game would go to a reply, disappointing as we could do without the extra fixture congestion but I quite fancied our chances to progress.

October Update (2014):

Heading into October we were in the same boat as we were when September came, just outside the play-offs..For some reason we just couldn't find that consistency yet, all we needed was a couple of wins on the bounce to launch us high up in the table.

FA Cup:

2nd Qualifying Round Replay

Following a disappointing draw away at Wroxham, we took them on here at Ewen Fields in what we hoped would be a simple task and while the FA Cup is far from a priority, any extra income is always a bonus for the club.

Disappointingly Wroxham took the lead early on, Glenn Dudley finishing from just outside the box to put the away side ahead, a nightmare start!

Reece Gray, our young striker pulled us back level 3 minutes later, a precise finish from the forward as he slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

Things got worse for us on 39 minutes when D'arcy O'connor scythed down Dudley inside the box, a penalty to Wroxham shortly before half time..Not what we wanted at all.

Brent Foy took the responsibility but you wouldn't have seen any nerves, the midfielder calmly sending O'Brien the wrong way, 2-1 to the away side...

Ronnie Seymour doubled the visitors advantage on 50 minute when he found the net early into the 2nd half, we started the 2nd as we ended the 1st..Awfully.

This is how the game finished, another poor result as we exit the FA Cup early on.

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #11

Our first league game of the month saw us take on Leamington away from home, hoping to bounce back from a poor FA Cup performance we needed to start quickly.

Steven Tames, our leading goalscorer quickly put us 1-0 up after 15 minutes, exactly the start I was looking for!

But more poor defending cost us 6 minutes later when Danny Newton leveled for the home side.

After a flat end to the 1st half, Luke Hubbins put the home side ahead early into the 2nd half, glancing home a header from a Leamington corner.

This time it was our turn to pull level, and we did in the 70th minute as playmaker Regan Walker was picked out by Tames before placing the ball past the oncoming Goalkeeper, 2-2.

Aron Wint capitalised on more poor defending as the home side regained their lead 11 minutes from time, and any chances of a comeback from us were dismissed on 85 minutes when D'arcy O'connor saw a second yellow for a late tackle. Another league defeat.

Our 12th game of the season saw us take on league leaders Chorley FC in what would be a very tough match, but we were hopeful..Off the back of two defeats I knew we needed to restore the confidence in the locker room and a win here would certainly do that.

The away side took the lead on 21 minutes when Kyle Brownhill put the ball past his own goalkeeper, more nightmare defending...

However we managed to show character and pull level within 30 seconds when Dave McNiven struck the ball with intent and saw his shot ping off the post and into the back of the net, a lovely equaliser!

We failed to come out in the 2nd half, Chorley quickly scored 3 goals in 22 minutes to destroy our hopes of getting anything from the game, all the while showing why they're in the top 2 and we're down in mid table.

Match #13

Our penultimate game of October was against 3rd placed Boston United, and on the back of three defeats I definitely wasn't feeling confident.

However the boys managed to pull off something special here as we took home a 1-0 victory.

D'arcy O'connor received his 2nd yellow for a horribly late tackle on 79 minutes, his 2nd of the season and from here I felt we were sure to throw the game away..A 4th defeat on the bounce, maybe?

But the team kept fighting and in the 94th minute managed to dig deep and pull out something special, Connor Hughes picking the ball up out wide before cutting inside on his right foot and bending one around the Boston Keeper, 10 men Hyde were getting the 3 points!

I was overjoyed!

Match #14

Our final game of the month saw us take on Worcester at Ewen Fields, on the back of a surprise victory against Boston I realised that anything could happen.

A horrendous start early on as Nathan Battersby gave the away side the lead after 10 minutes.

Young Striker Reece Gray found our equaliser 7 minutes later, latching onto a Louis Almond pass before stroking the ball past the Worcester keeper.

40 seconds later and we had the lead, Louis Almond once again a provider turned goalscorer as he found space on the edge of the box before firing past the Worcester shot stopper, 2-1!

Liam Chilvers made it 3-1 in the 74th minute, the veteran central defending leaping high and powering the ball into the net with a thumping header.

There was doubt in the result though when Connor Gudger pulled one back for the away side in the 78th minute, we couldn't afford to drop points here.

Lucky for us the late Worcester pressure came to nothing as the traveling side failed to find the equaliser, we had back to back league wins!

Same story again as we find ourselves just shy of the play-offs, which to be fair is pleasing as we did lose our first two league games of the month..Like I said before, we just needed to dig deep and find that consistency we've been lacking.

November Update (2014):

October was a frustrating month, the first time in all competitions that we'd managed 3 defeats in a row causing us not only to exit the FA Cup early, but causing us more trouble in our promotion hopes. Luckily we finished the month with two hard earned victories, something we needed to build on in October.

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #15

Our first game of the month saw us take on Solihull Moors at Damson Park, with them starting the season with a media prediction of 17th we had to fancy our chances here, especially off the back of two victories.

However, the home side found themselves 3-0 up heading into half time, a poor half from us which started off in the 10th minute, Striker Omar Bogle finding the net with a precise finish past O'brien.

Bogle found the net again after 38 minutes after glancing a header past our keeper from a Solihull cross, how he escaped his marker I don't know, but ultimately it cost us dearly.

Things got even worse we conceded again in first half injury time, Alex McQuade slicing the ball past his own goalkeeper to give the home team a 3-0 advantage heading into the break.

After attempting my own version of Sir Alexn's famous hair-dryer treatment at half-time the team came out with a lot more desire and ambition, star striker Steven Tames latching onto a Louis Almond pass before lofting it high into the top right corner, 3-1.

Louis Almond pulled back another as the playmaker drove a 20 yard freekick up and over the wall straight into the top left hand corner, was the comeback on?

Our hopes were dashed 6 minutes when Ryan Beswick caught us on the counter, putting the ball past O'brien.

4-2 the final result.

Following a disappointing defeat to Solihull we took on Gainsborough at Ewen Fields, despite Gainsborough being predicted to go down we knew it would be a tough fight, they'd be giving it their all.

Connor Hughes got us off to a great start on 19 minutes, the 21 year old winger cutting in from the left side before sliding the ball under the Gainsborough keeper from 18 yards, a lovely finish and a much needed goal for the young man.

Very few chances were created for the next hour or so until back-up Striker Reece Gray doubled our advantage on 83 minutes, we had the two goal cushion and the three points were ours.

Final Result, 2-0.

Following a victory against Gainsborough we took on league leaders Harrogate at Wetherby Road.

But something to build on at least.

Vanarama Conference North:

Match #18

Our 18th game of the season saw us take on 2nd placed Chorley at Victory Park.

Sadly the only Victory in this game went to Chorley as they took the spoils in a 4-3 battle.

Louis Almond put us ahead after 90 seconds when he converted a penalty after Tames was taken down by Dave Whitham.

Our lead was doubled on 15 minutes when Chorley player Luke Pritchard put the ball into his own net, a great start by us in this game!

Paolos Beraki pulled one back for the home team after 23 minutes, the Notts County loanee with a slaloming run down the right side before beating Billy O'brien at his near post.

Darren Stephenson leveled for the home side on the stroke of the 32nd minute, we'd thrown away a 2-0 lead and were now heading into the break, back at square one.

However there was hope, Chorley midfielder Dave Whitham given a 2nd yellow for a late tackle on the stroke of half time, the score at the break was level but we had a man advantage.

Despite the man advantage we were quickly punished early on in the 2nd half, Darren Stephenson getting his 2nd of the game to complete the turnaround for the home team, 3-2.

The young Jamaican striker completed his hat-trick on 59 minutes, a strong counter attack from Chorley as we went looking for the equaliser, some great play out wide before the ball was whipped into the strikers feet who calmly stroked the ball home.

Louis Almond was taken down inside the box in the 77th minute before taking the penalty himself to bag his 2nd of the game, making it 4-3 in the process.

We had a lot of the ball in the final 10 minutes but couldn't find a way past Chorley's defensive structure, the final score being a 4-3 win for Chorley.

FA Trophy North:

3rd Qualifying Round

Our final game of the month was against Boston United in the FA Trophy North, a win here in the 3rd Qualifying Round would see us qualify for the 1st round.

We put ourselves in a very good position to do so after 4 minutes, Reece Gray who was given the nod ahead of Tames putting us 1-0 up with a delightful little **** into the bottom corner, a great start!

The game went a little flat after we took the lead, a stereotypical non-league midfield battle as neither side could control the ball.

Reece Gray doubled our advantage in injury time in the 1st half, the young striker with an exact replica of the opening goal, one trick pony!

Danny Meadows pulled one back for the home side after 60 minutes and with 2-1 being such a risky scoreline, we definitely needed that 3rd goal.

And we did! Alex McQuade once again on the score sheet as the young defender put the ball in the net with a bullet header, 3-1!

This is how the game finished meaning we qualified for the 1st round, hopefully the start of a nice little cup run!
