Ever since the age of 10 i was intrested in my familys trips to portugal, now turning 35 i thought its about time i moved back to the place my family loved,
After all i have spent 8 years at a local football training acadamy for the towns Odivelas football club, which is situated in the south of Portugal, (Northwest of Lisbon)​

On the last day of my holiday in Odivelas i went to see my next-to-be local club play a league game against bottom dwellers UD santana, But despite the efforts of the home side,
Santana's came up trumps with there first win of the season 3-0.​

Back in the hotel room i flicked the tv on and to my amazment the local news was broadcasting that Fc Odivelas manager Rui Gregório had been sacked due to a poor season.​

Barley 30 mins had gone by and my mobile phone was ringing, it was the youth team manager of Odivelas who i have become very good friends with.​

"Carlos, you have been wanting to move here nows your chance" he rushed every word in a space of seconds, "I can speak to the clubs board and recommend your knowledge of management and your previous semi footballing career".​

I paused for a few minutes and i thought, What the heck...... Lets try for it.
With the go ahead i asked Ramo (Youth manager) to have a word on my behalf. Thinking to myself "What is there to lose"?......​

The next morning i had a phone call and on the end of the phone was the Chairman of Odivelas, "Carlos, You have been highly recommended by some key staff members here at my football club. I understand you are intrested in managing my club"?​

:::a Few deep breaths later and relising this is my chance, i replied:::​

"Yes, Yes i would. It would be a great oppertunity for me and i would like to think i was up to the challenge."
Chairman Replies...​

"Well i have organised a caretaker manager to play out the last few games of the season, but at the start of the 2009/10 season (Interview pending) Your my man!!!!"​


It was a dream come true, this is my chance i've always wanted, I will do everything in my power to do the best i can for me and for Odivelas.......​

:::History Of FC Odivelas:::
Founded in 1939, Odivelas Football Club are a proffessional Portuguese Club currently playing in the Portuguese second divison- South. The club play their home games at Estadio Arnaldo Dias. Obvielas have not won a competition since 1993.

:: Pre Season Thoughts:::
So the board expect a top half finish out of me and to aid my way they have generiously gave me £0 Transfer money and 8k Wage budget /pw..... from which it is all taken up.
So first thing ive done is got rid of half the reserves and alot of my non hopeful youths, which has given me abit of space for a few new hopeful signing.​

However the squad i have look decent enough to make a good step up the league, with the right tactics and managerial decisions im sure we can go far. I'm remaining positive for now as i feel im gonna need my happy thoughts lol.​

The 22 year old is by far the better keeper from the squad and the guy im gonna look up to keep them balls out the back of the net.​

This 35 year old has some impressive stats and also gonna be my captain for this season and the playmaker. Im looking for his Expierence to carry the youth of my team through this hard season ahead.​

This Young striker looks promising and hoping going to be my goal machine for the season. He is by far the better striker in the squad and within the next few days im going to be looking for a partner for him.​

So i can see this is going to be a hard battling season, but i think i kinda have the squad to and the staff to take us to the top of the division....​

I'll keep you updated on transfers and pre season matches as they come in.....​

:: Pre-Season :::​

Pre season is very long in the portugal league and enough space of plenty of friendlies so therefor ill post matches which i think are the pick of the best (so to speak)​

Odivelas 2 - 0 Juventude De Evora

Despite Juventude being a lower league side, i went into the match 2nd favorites. It was a fustrating game as we was creating chances after chances but not scoring. Juventude eventually went down to 10 men in the 71st minute for a dangerous challange. That spured us on as i brought 2 new strikers on and both of them getting on the score sheet!​

Odivelas 2 - 1 Paredes

Paredes are a Portuguese second divison (North) side and the odds were even going into the game. It was a battling game with stats being quite close and the spoils looked to be shared untill there center back headed into his own net following a teaseing cross.​

Merelinense are again a Portuguese Second Division (North) team.
Favorites going into the game i was pretty confident, but that confidence turned into gut ache as we found our selves down by 2 goals after 15 minutes. But from then on it was a run away game with my lads banging in 6 goals from 11 shots. Bruno Carlos being the pick of crop coming on at half time to grab 2 assists and a goal to top off his performance.​

Season 09/10 Begains:

With no transfer budget and £0 wage budget left to play with i managed to grab 4 loaned players to hopefully boost my season expectations.

Mano (22)
This young Devensive midfielder was twice the player i originally had his spot. So im hoping for him to produce the football to start going forward and getting back when it counts. I got him on a season long loan without paying any of his wages.

Romario (20)
Grabbed from my parent club Belenenses, He is young and has nice amount of pace along with other nice stats. Ill be looking for him to bag the goals where my current strikers seem to fail.

Portuguese Cup Round 1:
Rio Maior 1 - 0 Odivelas
Annoying game were i felt we was always on top but a own goal from a corner seemed to be the winner. Tbh tho for my first season were im counting on loaned players (who cant play in cups) im not fussed about being out the cup so i can focus on the season ahead.

A match were we was predicted to get a hammering and we found our selves down 0-1 at half time. After a stern team talk my players came out firing and managed to get to 3-1 with 5 mins left. They grabbed a late goal to make a edgy last few minutes!

Media kindly predicited a "No chance" of winning this but yet again we proved them wrong. Freira proved a menace on the right wing and then deservedly bagging himself a goal. A nice win for us and a good start so far.

Louletano 1 - 1 Odivelas

Louletano are within the faviorites to fight for promotion so a draw against these was a well earned effort. Unfourtunitly it came at a price and resulted in my star loan sining Mano getting a fractured arm but he also won us the penalty that drew us the game. Very even game.

We were fav going into the game and it showed, but the lack of goal scoring is worrying tbh. But the shots difference was big and we seemed to dominate the whole game. Freira was the pick of the bunch again with his runs down the wing and number of great crosses.

Not a bad month in all and hope to build on this. Our defence is sorted we just need to bag more goals......
