Okay so I realized that when I use a tactic, it goes well for about 6 months up to a season then it starts becoming terrible. What's happening? Has the AI figured it out? What do I do to make this tactic great again?

I can't explain in technical terms, but yes. Basically, you want to change your tactic every so often (At least a new one every season) so that it doesn't got "figured out."

Would it work if I employ a tactic that I have used in previous seasons?

No..No..No

Its not the change of tactics/approach that gives you success or brings you out of a slump, it the actual tactic/approach. when constructing a tactic and getting good results with it, these results are achieved under certain circumstances. When these circumstances change, you need to approach this new reality in the appropriate way. Then how do we do this ? Well, you need to be able to read the game. You need to be able to see the relation between cause and effect and most importantly, you need to know how your tactics function and have a initial though behind this approach. if one has constructed a pure plug & play that works wonders in certain scenarios but have absolutely no idea why, then its impossible to tweak it to function again, now when it fails under these new circumstances. Of course, one could use trial & error until one gets it right, reloading games over and over again, but one will not learn anything from it.

Lets get down to your setup. Look at the way you where playing, what was your though behind the approach. What was the status of the club ( playing Man u or Blackpool) ?. In what way did the opposition play against you when you got results ?. what made the tactic work, the flow of the game etc. Once you established this, you can now look at the current games where you fail. How are the opposition playing against you now ? What is still working in you setup and what have stopped working. When you have established this, then and only then, you can make an evaluation whether the flaw lies in the tactical setup or if its down to the players and the man management.

My point wasn't that the change was the key element, it was the change to a new tactic that was based upon your successes, and trying to stop your short points. Obviously, changing from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2 without really adapting it to your team will not make that much difference.

I think I may have phrased my point poorly.
