Does anyone have any experiences of managing A-League teams. What tactics worked well? Any good players to reccomend?

Hey, i have been managing Melbourne Heart and just made the finals and i find the best formations seem to be attacking ones (not sure why though) but i haven't signed anyone yet. None of the state league or free agents seem good enough and since you can't buy from other A-league clubs at the start it makes it hard

Attacking formations do work well, but also central if you can. Bas Roorda is a goalkeeper that's free at the start of the game, he is very good!

started playing as melbourne victory. Had a pretty good squad to start off with, so didn't sign many players. Nevertheless, did sign Adrian Madaschi from Portosummaga, as well as Chris James - a New Zealand international on a free. However, my best pickup was Trent Nixon, from Northcote City. Has scored 5 goals in 5 game. Only paid 50k for him.

I play with a 3-5-2 formation. Am currently coming 3rd with a 4-4-0 record after 8 games

Ive played as Phoenix once on FM10 only because they are from my country and i always hear about them on the news and stuff, did pretty rubbish, didnt have a clue as to what i was doing, dont know any of the players or anything

I find managing in Australia boring. No relegation/promotion. No cups. That is until I get around to making a DB for Australia ;)

It's really hard to commit to a long-term game in the A-League.
I did one with the Phoenix in FM10 and stopped playing halfway through season 3, must say though, when you have someone like Szczesny in goal it makes things so much easier :P

But to answer your question, I find using width and a semi-attacking formation (4-4-2) or a central and very attacking formation (4-1-3-2) works quite well. But it would depend on what players you have.
