After the 5th year of managing Manchester United, winning 7 domestic competitions and 4 league titles, I decided that it was time for a change. So with the mighty Rafa Benitez being fired from Napoli after they fell to 13th in Serie A, I thought I should apply for the job. I wasn't totally sure that leaving Manchester would be the best career move, however, the fact that I had spent over ?230 million over a period of 5 years, most of which came from re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo for ?90 million, I felt it was the right time to go.
So, on the 22nd December 2017, I signed a 2 year contract, albeit on a much smaller wage of ?25,000, with a transfer budget of ?4.3 million, I graciously accepted the challenge.
