Day 1, Alex Ferguson is replaced by the unknown manager from Plymouth, Tom Haydon. Eyebrows are certainly raised, players are disgruntled that an unknown has taken over. The hard work starts here?..

I wanted to make an immediate impact on the squad to let them know who?s boss. Anderson, Buttner, Young, and Nani are all sold abroad. Sadly, Shinji Kagawa is sold back to Dortmund for 28 mill. A good price for someone unfortunately will not fit into my new plans for the team.

For a long time now everyone has noted that the United midfield is in need of serious change. That is exactly what I have brought in. Days after the above departures, re-enforcements arrive at Old Trafford and the fans?..are loving them!

In:

Luke Shaw ? LB from Southampton, cover for Evra at 32 years old ? 15.5 mill
Ilkay Gundogan ? CM from Dortmund, hopefully the answer to our midfield creative problems ? 19.75 mill
Ross Barkley ? CM from Everton, the next shining light at Old Trafford (more on him later) ? 21 mill
Pepe ? CD from Real Madrid, offered to me by his agent for 5 mill, thought it great cover for the ageing Ferdinand and Vidic while Jones develops

During the press conference, I make special note that Ross Barkley could lead this club to glory??

I call in Nemanja Vidic and ask him to welcome the new arrivals, settle them into the squad. I then set everyone on intensive fitness training, before I organise and pre-season tour of America.

The lads come back fresh, I feel excited about the Community Shield against Wigan. All of my new players line up for their debut?s. RVP sits on the bench as he needs some extra rest time. We line up as follows:

De Gea
Rafael, Vidic, Pepe, Shaw
Januzaj, Gundogan, Carrick, Valencia
Barkley, Rooney

In what turns out to be almost like a friendly, we coast to a 3-0 victory, Pepe with a debut goal, Rooney and Valencia grabbing the others. I open the trophy cabinet door to put the Community Shield in it and I feel very positive about the future?..

First league game of the season see?s United travel to Hull City. I am wary as the newly promoted side are fresh and hungry, but I line up exactly as I did for the Wigan game except young Fabio comes in for Luke Shaw. 10 minutes in, Vidic gets rightly sent off for a two footed tackle. I send on Jonny Evans for Gundogan to plug the hole. We still dominate the game even with a man down, but cannot score. Things are nervy in the last 10 minutes, but I always felt we could score, and we did as Fabio burst into the box after a majestic through ball from Rooney. We take 3 points from the 1-0 win and can build on this??

My first home game in charge of Man Utd at Old Trafford see?s Swansea travel up North. Again I pick the same 11 as the Hull City win. I walk out onto the turf for the first time and feel extremely paranoid that I must win my first home game. I have to. Turns out I had nothing to worry about.

Wayne Rooney makes it 1-0. Goals from Pepe and Valencia make it 3-0 at half time. My half time team talk is very relaxed and I tell the boys how great they are playing.
5 minutes later, Adnan Januzaj shows he is going to be a first team regular. He ghosts past 3 players and slots it home for 4-0, then gets his second of the game with a nice header for 5-0.
Ross Barkley arrives late in the box countless times and finally gets a deserved goal on his home debut to make it 6-0!
This Man Utd 11 were relentless though, they kept pressing, and Rooney bagged his second of the afternoon for 7-0, to rub salt in the wounds of Swansea, van Persie was introduced for the excellent Barkley who earned a standing ovation, and he helped himself to a goal after horrible defending by the Swans. 8-0??
To cap a dream home fixture, Rooney fired in a whipped free kick and Ilkay Gundogan notched his first Man Utd goal. Suddenly, I am realising if we can score 1 more goal, we will better our best ever game of beating Ipswich 9-0 in 1995. Sadly there was no 10th goal?..

I couldn?t of asked for a better start to the league campaign, but a tough home fixture against Arsenal loomed large, especially now they were operating with Ozil. It was tight affair in the first half, but the new boy wonder Ross Barkley scored a van Basten like volley over his shoulder for 1-0, Ferdinand made it 2-0 and Januzaj made sure in the last 10, Ozil grabbed a consolation but another fine performance from the lads to put us top of the league. 3-1

Draws for the Capital One Cup and Champions League are made. I?m paired with Liverpool in the 3rd round, while in our group stage we get Juventus, Basel and Spartak. True to Man Utd?s form in the League Cup, I field my promising youngsters against Liverpool:

Amos
Smalling, Evans, Jones, Shaw
Cleverley, Barkley, Januzaj, Zaha
Van Persie, Hernandez

I thought the in-experience of this 11 could fall down here, but to my surprise, even with Suarez in their starting line-up, we coasted to a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford. (Hernandez, Jones and Barkley scoring again!)

We boarded the plane to Italy to face Juventus in my first Champions League game. Straight away you could see this was a different kettle of fish. It was tense, we were outplayed in parts, and was very grateful to return with all 3 points after a scrappy 1-0 win. More work is needed to add experience to this promising side.

A few days later saw us travel to West Brom, who were in fact riding high in 2nd position. I think I may have overestimated them being up there, putting it down to early season results, they deservedly took the lead through Shane Long, and then we found it very hard to break them down, finally finding the equaliser through Valencia to come away with a point. This makes me realise away games are quite difficult no matter who you play and some tinkering with the tactics are needed.

So all in all, a bright start to the new campaign for this young, fresh Man Utd side. Top of the Barclays Premier League table on goal difference, through to the next round of the Capital One cup, and 3 points in the Champions League.

Highlights so far:

Ross Barkley ? great goals, assisting, running midfield, the new Wayne Rooney?
Adnan Januzaj ? goes past players like they are not there, popping up with goals, will develop into a star
David De Gea ? Will be in goal for us for the next 20 seasons he?s that good.

Until the next time??..

A very unique layout but I like it, quite a lot! Good start with United, all the best with dominating!

Thanks! It is quite a lot but I find myself addicted this year (as every year) and need to share every part of my game! thanks for reading...

After a short break, we returned off the back of a triumph against Liverpool to play them again straight after in the Capital One Cup fourth round at Old Trafford. True to my word, I field the young guns again to give them vital experience for the coming season:

Amos
Shaw Evans Ferdinand Fabio
Januzaj Cleverley Barkley Zaha
Hernandez Welbeck

These youngsters prove their worth at home, dispatching Liverpool 3-0, goals from Januzaj (his 4th of the season) Ferdinand and Welbeck. We draw Chelsea in the next round

The league form continues to impress, unbeaten this season PL 14, W 10, D 4, L 0

A particular worry is the goal scoring form of RVP and Rooney, who only have 3 and 4 goals each respectively. I change things around a bit up top by dropping RVP to the bench until further notice. Barkley plays in the hole as an AMC, with Rooney the lone man up front as the complete forward. RVP isn?t happy, he come to see me about being dropped to the bench after training well, and I inform him he will get his chance

We make the long trip to Wales to play Cardiff after feeling good about the League Cup win, beating Tottenham 2-0 and the league form of rising stars Adnan Januzaj and Ross Barkley. But yes, we go 1-0 down until the 75th minute

Januzaj equalises with a poachers effort drifting in from the right, Rooney bags his 5th goal of the season also and a captains goal from Vidic secures the 3 points. At full time I still lay into the team saying they were not good enough and they responded quite well actually.

A tricky trip away to FC Basel now, and if we win, we qualify for the next round after already beating Juventus and Spartak. Wayne Rooney gets some fire going now as he nets his first hat trick of the season in a 1-3 win which see?s Tom Haydon?s Man Utd qualify for the next round of the Champions League at the first attempt.

All of a sudden, Rooney is on 8 goals for the season and looks very sharp. He nets another 2 goals away to his old club Everton who sit in 2nd place and helps United open up a 5 point gap at the top. 10 goals and counting.

Capital One Cup quarter final ? Chelsea vs Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

I wasn?t about to mess around too much with my youngsters in this competition, and gave them every opportunity to carry on what they had started, except a couple of changes.

Amos
Shaw Ferdinand Pepe Rafael
Januzaj Cleverley Barkley Zaha
Van Persie Welbeck

RVP is recalled to the starting lineup, Chelsea of course put out their strongest squad possible

It?s a great start for the reds as RVP scores with a glancing header. We actually control the game and I think my tactics here are spot on for this tough away game, closing down and hitting them on the break. Suddenly, young Ben Amos has a rush of blood and shows his in ?experience, he should pick the ball up but decides to dally around and not clear his lines, the defence is all at sea, the ball runs loose and Demba Ba scores the easiest of tap ins.

From the kick off, United lose the ball and Eto?o powers in from long range to punish our young guns for not keeping the ball well enough, then the half time whistle goes, a disastrous 10 minutes. I tell the team though that they have played well and to keep going, we certainly don?t deserve to be losing. We come out again strong in the second half and Ferdinand gets an equaliser, his 4th of the season, from a great corner from RVP. 2-2, game on

The young red devils begin to tire, soon they can?t cope with Mata, Oscar, Eto?o and Ba who all combine to batter the United goal. We hold on for dear life and make it to extra time! I bring on Ilkay Gundogan and Michael Carrick to sure things up and hopefully stem the flow of attacks from the home side. Then, a sucker punch as Ba scores his second of the night in extra time, then a few minutes later, all life from our team is blown away as Ivanovic scores a screamer from outside the box to finish it 4-2. I blame myself for this loss, we didn?t have the right people on the bench and I let some of the young players play for too long when they should have come off. This will make us stronger, but Chelsea look menacing and have yet to beat them this season (1-1 at Stamford Bridge in the League also)

Tom Haydon?s first defeat as Man Utd manager but there are many positives to look at. Still undefeated in the league and Champions League, we take our strongest 11 to Manchester City, which turns out to be a bore draw 0-0, I can?t help but think there are still a couple of missing links in order for this United team to turn over teams like Chelsea and Man City

And so to the last game of this update, a much fancied home tie against West Ham. Myself and Big Sam get into a bit of a media argument after I call his team a bunch of golden oldies. I may have mis-judged that comment as they play very well for 81 minutes, shutting out wave after wave of United attacks. Finally, some great work from Januzaj crossing for Barkley who again arrives like a late Paul Scholes to smash home his 5th goal of the season, and we leave with a tidy 1-0 win to keep us top of the league.

van Persie comes to see me after the game. He states he is unhappy that I have not been playing him regularly. How can I drop Barkley or Rooney in this kind of form? I have a thought crossing my mind that van Persie and Hernandez could be surplus to requirements for the right money, am I going crazy, or could that work? The January transfer window could get interesting..

Highlights:

Januzaj ? 5 goals, 4 assists
Barkley ? 5 goals, 8 assists, the most assists in the Premier League at the moment
Rooney ? Now on fire with 11 goals in 12 starts
De Gea ? Only conceded 5 goals this season, but does need cover as Amos is not ready and Lindegaard is poor
