BREAKING NEWS

After the shock resignation of manager Lawrie McKinna, Central Coast Mariners have today appointed inexperienced Scotsman Connelly Boyle. The 45 year old was said to be delighted at the prospect of managing in the A-League;

"It's certainly not one of the biggest leagues in world football, but it still has a good quality of play, so I'm sure it will be a good place for me to begin my career."

Boyle has signed a two year deal with the club and is expected to earn them qualification to the Asian Champions League.

MARINERS ANNOUNCE SURPRISE DOUBLE SIGNING

Central Coast Mariner's new manager Connelly Boyle has today announced the dual signing of young Argentinian striker Johnathan Cristaldo on loan, as well as one of the biggest coup's likely to be seen across the globe in Australian legend Mark Viduka. Cristaldo was said to be happy with his loan deal, as it would help him gain some experience, whilst many pundits hailed the signing of Viduka as one of the biggest signings in the short history of Australian football. The club also announced that they have signed young prospects, Mitchell Mallia, Brendan Griffin and Nicholas Fitzgerald on long term pro-contracts.

Will update when pre-season is over. Any comments are welcome

PRE-SEASON RESULTS

Wollongong 0 Mariners 1 (Wolfe)

Central Coast Lightning 0 Mariners 2 (Cristaldo, MacAllister)

Bankstown City 2 Mariners 4 (Borg, Moonie; Cristaldo x 3, Fitzgerald)

Marconi 1 Mariners 3 (Vidaic; Cristaldo, Elrich x 2)

Mariners 0 Bayern 2 (Gomez x 2)

Belconnen Utd 0 Mariners 3 (MacAllister, Forbes, Ibini-Isei)

Manager's Thoughts: Overall, I was pleased with our performances, beating the lower-league opposition with ease and playing some good football. Only concern is the fact that my two big signings are each out for 3 weeks, meaning they'll miss the first game of the season, although there is a chance Viduka will be fit. 4-4-2 seemed to be working well for now, although I hope to have quite a flexible team in terms of tactics as time goes on.

MARINERS KICK OFF SEASON IN STYLE

Melbourne Victory 1 Central Coast Mariners 5

Despite being heavily tipped for a doing of their own, Central Coast Mariners totally outplayed and demolished league champions Melbourne Victory at the Etihad Stadium. Ahmad Elrich gave Mariners the lead on 17 minutes with a placed shot, before Carlos Hernandez equalised on 29 minutes. Then the floodgates opened. Cristaldo kicked it off with a turn and shot on 31 minutes, then 3 minutes after half time Adrian Leijer scored an own goal to give Mariners a two-goal advantage. From then on, it was the Dylan MacAllister show as he headed a 4th on 55 minutes. On 80 minutes, Mariners won a penalty kick, with MacAllister took, only to see his effort saved. However, he was not to be denied as he lashed home in the last minute to complete his brace. On the face of this result, things bode well for Boyle's Mariners.

REST OF AUGUST UPDATE

Mariner's Tear Jets Apart

Mariners 3 Newcastle Jets 1

Another solid show from the Mariners, as a goal apiece from Cristaldo, Macallister and Matt Simon secured a win against rivals Newcastle Jets. Nikolai Topor-Stanley replied for the Jets.

Boyle's New Sensations Overwhelm Sydney

Mariners 4 Sydney 1

Central Coast Mariners confirmed their intent of a title charge with another derby day demolition. All of the damage was done in the first half as Johnathan Cristaldo bagged a hat-trick. whilst Dylan Macallister adding the other. A John Aloisi strike in the second half proved little more than a consolation for Sydney.

Cristaldo Continues Hot Streak In Another Resounding Victory

Brisbane Roar 0 Mariners 6

Brisbane Roar simply had no answer to the irresistable football of Central Coast Mariners, especially not the finishing prowess of Johnathan Cristaldo, who bagged a second consecutive hat trick. Goals from Cristaldo, Wolry Wolfe and Ahmad Elrich had the Mariners 3-0 up at half time, before two more goals from Cristaldo and a goal from Dylan Macallister completed the rout.

Manager's View:
What a way to start the season, scoring bucketloads of goals, with my big signing Cristaldo helping himself to 8! Even Viduka cant get in the team due the good form of Cristaldo and his strike partner Macallister. Hoping for more of the same as the season progresses. We're top of the league by two points as well, which is an even better position to continue our challenge for the title.

Player Of The Month: Jonathan Cristaldo

Who else could it be? 8 goals in 4 games is fantastic in any league and his all round play has been first class as well. He will surely be central to our title challenge.

Kind of deleted this save after I finished my first season, but I stilll rememver enough for a brief round-up. Won the Regular Season by a distance, with both Cristaldo and Macallister scoring over 20 goals, whilst Viduka left in January after some very poor performances. Managed to get through to the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League before losing 3-2 on aggregate to FC Seoul. Got to the Play-Off Final where I lost 2-1 to Sydney after beating them 6-0 on aggregate in the Major Semi-Final.

So this was certainly a sucessful game, but after my first season there was really little more that I could do so I decided to end it.

Lol, the Mariners are my local club!

However I don't find Australia incredibly interesting to manage in.

To remedy this I have been working on a database over the past few weeks that extends the A-league to 16 teams and adds 3 leagues below it (the third tier has sub tiers). It also adds a few cups and things eg. Changes the rules so they are more flexible. It been pretty thoroughly tested and tweaked and its almost finished. I might put it up for download once its done.
