I made this thread for people that say a tactic doesn't work. This is for people who have suffered abuse for their tactics, which are actually really good.

For a tactic to work, you should not go on holiday, as if your team does something wrong you cannot repair it.

Also you should not enter a game with your assistant picking the team, and doing your team talk. I know this is common sence, but some people don't have it.

Attend Pre-match Advise Meeting and Scout Next Opponent to determine the width, tempo, passing, etc

Change player instructions on players for next match.

Look for the right players in the right positions for your side.

Look at this extract from Goals Galore:
1. Attend Pre-match Advise Meeting and Scout Next Opponent to determine the width, tempo, passing, etc
2. When your DMC got too much red card, set his tackling to mixed or alternatively sub him on 2nd half when he's already booked.
3. Turn off tight marking for full backs if they are slow
4. Turn on tight marking for central defenders if you're confident with their ability.
5. Against long shotter like Lampard, set your DMC to man mark them.
6. Almost all is tweaked in Players Instructions, so some changes directly from Team Instructions won't do much. You may have to do it manually.

Okay then, thats about it!

This thread should help lots of people out there

To be honest, I don't really do anything. I create a simple tactic for each team I am and that is it. And it's been working fine for me ¬_¬

i find if you stick with the same tactic for long enough, and only making minor changes in game as and when needed, then you tend to win pretty mcuh everything aftwer a while when you players get used to playing that way.

Anyone can create a tactic.

Easy.

Good advice though. :)

True, but say if you want Mr Hough's Wonder Tactic and it is not working for you?

Or JP Woodys. I have to add that in. |)

Yeah, and when I've downloaded tactics I don't do anything.. oO)
Then they don't work as well as their potentail.

Yes they do.. When I've downloaded tactics they've all worked well, some even did better then I've done before with teams.

To be honest the problem is people overcomplicating tactics. Keep it simple

I'm just saying, don't complain. If you download a tactic, then this is good advise. If you haven't, then I asume you are good at FM and don't need one. Simples.

too many people make changes without understanding what those changes actually do

I'm a new player to this game and by no means i don' have experience as some of you guys. And i do agree there should be more to tactic than simple plug and play, but there are some tactic that i really find to good to be realistic and that is what bothers me.

I wanted to find tactic for weaker team (i took sporting) that will allow me to create nice team play with allot of defensive play and quick counters.

As I play this game for first time I went and downloaded couple of tactic to make some experimenting before creating my own (actually already created some and had some average results).
Curently I am runing John-Cro tactic 4-3-3 but slightly modified. One CM was pulled back do DMC and 2 strikers pulled back to AML/R. Now with good teamplay squad like Sporting could hope for some draws, couple of wins and try to reduce losing as much as you can. Maybe later on when you build some confidence and bring in some players you should hope for some more wins.
But at this point with average team (i only have 1 regen striker that is nice) I'm standing at 1 place in Spain with 9 wins and 1 draw. Those wins include 2:1 against Barca and 4:1 against Real.

So it seems to me that some tactic maybe find a way to exploit game engine in some manner. I just cant find it realistic that my team could play this good.
I dont know, maybe its just me but i want to play this game for some challenge and not just load some great tactic and watch as i win spanish league with Sporting and later conquer Europe...

I already made some of my own tactics and had some average results with big clubs, now i downloaded some and i have great success with low end club.

Sorry for all this wall of text, I was simply trying to state that tactic (in game) can be straight victory, that is not what I want (game is loosing meaning that way) but it is there.

Well, artal, i see what you mean and you want a tactic to be realistic. I have just got a basic tactic on my Stevenage game, so it is more realistic.

I think its false thinking that the team is struggling/doing well against *** is that useful. Its mostly relevant on what tactics and formations the other teams in the league use and you shouldn't mess around too much with your own team because of that. So even if the league runner-up is doing well vs 4-4-2 you shouldn't try something different you dont have players for since the 2nd team in the league is probably doing pretty well vs any formation. Another thing is tweaking e.g. tempo. If your first team players are defensive they have a real hard time adapting into an attacking strategy just because your opponent might've been vulnerable to it in the past. Or setting your pace 8 fullbacks to push up a lot because your coach said so. And of course occasionally your coaches tell you to play superwide on a supernarrow pitch etc.

Agreed.
