Right, I've decided (after some other attempts at this by others) to try and run a Tactics World Championship where the best FM11 tactics will be pitted against each other in the battle to find the best.

Ive has a number of ideas of how to run this:

The competition will be run on the 11.3 patch.
All teams will be duplicates with identical players with maximum stats for set positions. Each club will have two players who fit each and every position and role; for example, two fullbacks support, two attacking wingbacks etc.... And each team will have identical staff and facilities.
Each team will be holidayed with the tactic in use and reject all transfer bids.
Entries will be the top 32 downloads on FM Base, mixed in with 32 recomended entries for the discussion area. The top 32 downloaded tactic will be given seedings according to downloads and the recomended tactics will be unseeded and drawn at random.

Format ideas:

1. 8 groups of 8 teams playing each other twice. The top four teams going through to either a straight two leg knockout or to another 8 groups of 4, playing each other twice and the top two going through to two legged knockout rounds for the last 16.

2. 4 groups of 16, playing each other twice, top 4 qualify for 2 legged knockout rounds.

3. 16 groups of 4, playing each other twice, top two qualify for 8 groups of 4, top two qualify for 4 groups of 4, top two qualify for two legged knockout rounds.

4. Two Leagues of 32, play each other twice. Top 16 in each league qualify for a league of 32, play each other twice. Top 16 in that league qualify for two legged knock out rounds.

5. Straight two legged knockout

These are just some ideas I have but if you have any other suggestions I would be more than happy to listen and then have a public vote on the format.

This is just a discussion thread for the format. An Entry thread will be set up to enter tactics and then a seperate thread to run the championship.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS THREAD TO ENTER YOUR TACTICS!!

Feedback always welcome!

I may also need help with the editing. I have created a World Super League and other things before so I have some skill with the editor, but any help would be appreciated

I was gonna do this too lol.

I think it should be run like a Champions League.

Qualifying for lower downloaded/rated tactics to get into groups with the 1st seeded (5*) and second seeded (4*) tactics :)

yea i was thinking of running a Champions League format, but wanted it with 64 teams. Thats why i kinda wanted to have a vote so we get the fairest format that the majority of people would be happy with.

If you want we could try a joint effort on a database and in running it.

16 groups of 4 each #1 place qualifies for the knockout round.

i like the idea but im not sure that it would provide enough games to fully see a comparison of the tactics, whereas more games would prove a tactic is the best

For some reason my tactic is absolutly rubbish for this, even though I've beaten Inter, Barcelona and Madrid with Napoli in my current save, I can't even beat Olympiakos?

which tactic is yours?

I agree with laffles, Champions League format would be best

Haven't uploaded it yet. Was working on it since January until last month, due to exams, then i'll be delevoping it in 2 weeks :)

I'd also like to know whether the seedings for the downloaded teams on here should be done by downloads or by rating

I'd say by rating. Some tactics are over hyped but only average. Rating is a better way of seeding

ok that sounds good to me....then any others can be entered as unseeded teams

so you think 16 groups of 4 with top two going through to the two legged knockout rounds?

You could do that, or u can narrow it down to 32, and divide into 8 groups.

The qualification could be: 32 most DOWNLOADED tactics divided into 8 groups, top 2 of each group advance. 32 RECOMMENDED tactics divided into 8 groups, top 2 advance.

That way when you get to the real group stages theres 2 recommended tactics in each group and 2 most downloaded tactics in each group. It would take quite long and be a pain to put together all the groups so that they are properly seeded but i think it would give you best and most fair results. sorry for caps but its hard to explain and be clear. if its too much work i understand but this would probably give you the fairest test.

I think thats the fairest way yes. I wouldn't go entirely on downloads either

I'd have a minimum limit of downloads on reccomended(unseeded) tactics.

i see what you mean.

so you think we should split up the recomended tactics and the downloaded tactics to start with then merge the best ones together?

It seems sensible. But I feel that mixing both could be better. All of the recomended ones could be poor, and all the Downloaded could be quality leaving a huge one sided competition.

Exactly, that way recommended and downloaded tactics have equal chances and play a lot of matches to really narrow down to the best tactics

yea i definatley think mixing right from the start would be best, cause you could have some recomended tactics that blitz the downloaded and vise versa

Thats sorted then. I'll give you a hand organising if you want?
