I bought Pedro Obiang and play him as a B2B Support Midfielder. I played a 4-5-1 Counter Attacking style, but every game, my Assistant tells me "Obiang is used to playing at a lower tempo." How do I train him to play at a faster tempo? Is it adding a move? Is it changing his role in training? I also have experienced this with directness.

This is my first post so thank you!

it takes a fair while for a player to acclimatise to a new philosophy if it is not something they are used too, all you have to do really is keep playing him, usually takes a singular season for them to be fully accustomed to it, i do believe.

Oh ok, so there's nothing specific I can do in training or special move?

I'm not sure it's to do with that, but is instead based upon attributes. e.g. "not use to closing down so much" is related to work rate.

Also, don't forget often the assistants advice can be wrong. Even with high tactical knowledge.

Ok, for example, I am in 2017 and I signed Thiago for Manchester United. In the feedback, every match it says:

Thiago looks like he is used to playing at a lower tempo than asked to today.
It seems like Thiago is not used to closing down opponents as often as asked to today.

So, besides changing the tactic for one person, how do I get Thiago to do these things? Is it just time? Can I add a preferred move? Can I train him for a specific attribute?

You could try training tactics or team cohesion. But look at his attributes and ask if he is going to ever be good at what you want him to do.

Does he have the work rate, stamina, acceleration, aggression to be closing down?

Does he have the decisions and first touch for a high tempo game? By looking at these you should be able to determine whether he's good enough to try and fit these roles in the future (individual training), whether he will improve enough or whether you are better off asking him to close down less and hold on to the ball longer

It has little do do with attributes, instead it has more to do with how he was developed into football, Thiago played for Barcelona and Pep Guardiola-led Bayern, both of which play a low tempo passing game. I play Torquay for example, and I experimented by turning off tempo and closing down settings, in my assistant feedback, I noticed that my players are more used to a higher tempo closing down system, which is fitting considering how League 2 football is built around physical play and direct balls.

That's because your tactic employs the opposite instructions by default. Nothing to do with having one player not suiting a tempo when a tactic is already fluid.

I bet the players with stats in the right places weren't pointed out.
