Ok so I was told that I should talk to the press about Marek Hamsik since I want to sign him and my big question is, what is the point of this? Does this make it easier to get him on a transfer or does it just work for his contract if I can sign him?

he can become unhappy and you will have bigger chances to get him
if you're lucky players sometimes make transfer requests
i always do that when i want to sign a player
you can usually get them much cheaper

It unsettles players, unless players like Hernadez in the first season have no intention of joining you.

Does 2 things

1. As already mentioned, it can unsettle the player and make him want to move (dont see this very often unless the right contexts align)
2. Improves your "relationship" score with that player (both + or -). This will make him more likely to agree to a reasonable contract to play for you, and he'll stay happy while playing for you.

u could also upset a player in ur squad playing the same postion by doing this
