Ok so I've taken over Barcelona towards the end of the 2017/2018 season after success at Arsenal. I currently have some aging players on my squad like Andres Iniesta, Dani Alves, Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano and even Cesc Fabregas. Would any of you consider releasing them? I mean maybe not Lionel Messi because he is currently only 30 and Cesc I think is 32 but how about Dani Alves and Andres Iniesta who is 34 and I think Mascherano is 35?

Dont play them they will retire then hire them as coaches thats what i did :)

Well I am letting Mascherano go because he is on 275k per week wages.

Mascherano, Iniesta and Alves should all be between 34 and 36 while Messi and Cesc are around 30 and 31 yo.

Let Mascherano, Iniesta and Alves go. Their stats has massively decreased by then and you have a huge budget to use on signing several quality players to replace them, if Barca's previous manager hasn't replaced them yet at all. But if ever you think they could become very good tutors to one of your youth players (only the most promising one), maybe sign them for another year and they will probably retire at your club after the contract extension.

Messi and Cesc should stay as they still have a couple of years to play on the top of their game and another few more as back-ups.

And we all knew that goalkeepers have longer playing careers than outfield players. But if Valdes retired for me at 35, do you think it makes sense to keep outfield players almost as old as a retiring goalkeeper?

Those players get old but they are still kinda good^^ if it compensates, keep them.

The only problem I have with releasing Dani Alves and Andres Iniesta is their status with the club. I mean the fans would be devastated and now that I am in the 2018/2019 season they only have 1 year remaining on their contracts. I bought some promising regens to take over for Valdes but I also bought David Ospina to use. I hope to find some very good Spanish regens though. I was never going to get rid of Messi or Fabregas but I had to let Masch go seeing as he was earning 275k per week which is rediculous.

Iniesta and Dani Alves: If they aren't playing we'll or their ave rating is 7.5 below (no matter how many goals, assists, MOM they got), the fans will only feel sorry for losing him solely because they're probably an icon/legend in club. But considering that performance for the club, they're not good enough to stay. Give the younger ones, especially youth regens, the spot in the team's XI.
