Deportivo Alavés, S.A.D., usually abbreviated to Alavés, is a Spanish football club based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, in the Basque Country. Founded in 1921, it currently plays it's home matches at the 19,500-seater Estadio Mendizorrotza.

Today the former UEFA Cup finalists have appointed former little known Semi-Pro footballer Jose Luis as manager for the 2009/10 season.

The Spanish club have been through hard times in recent years reaching the UEFA Cup final in 2001 before losing to an extra time goal to Liverpool. 2 years later, Alaves were relegated to the 2nd Division and spending 2 years there before being promoted again in 2005 before being immediately relegated again. From there things only got worse for Alaves and in 2009 they foud themselves relegated to the 3rd tier of Spanish football. Things had to change and the board have decided now to bring in Luis with the hope that he can get the club heading back in the right direction. A direction that the club were once moving in before their recent plummet.

Luis is not without his hardships as the club have given him no money to spend at all and a wage budget of just £10,987 and with the club spending upward of £13,000 this will need to be addressed.

Now a question il attach to this, regardless if I get a slap on the wrist and referred to a thread is:

How do you post up screenshots?

Press Alt+f9 in game to take the screenshot. Then click on the paperclip icon in the reply box and find the screenshots in the screenshot folder on sports interactive > football manager 2010 etc etc... Click the paperclip icon once again once the image has been uploaded to insert it into the page.

Looking forward to reading this story. Fed up with the zillion stories about Liverpool or Man City, good to see someone wanting to take on a real challenge!

not much people here playing on Spanish 3rd division ... waiting for your next update matey ... :)

Alaves 2 v 0 Alaves 'B'

Jose Luis got his first look at his squad today as he and assistant Juan Moreno lined up an intra-squad friendly.

Luis asked his squad to impress him and show that anyone that played had to show that they deserved to continue playing for Alaves. The first half didnt show much evidence of that as the Alaves first team tried to adjust to Luis' tactics though it ended with a disallowed goal and the first team firmly in command of the game.
The second half started much the same as the first until the breakthrough came in the 62nd minute from forward Igor. A lovely through pass round the outside onto Igor's right foot and the forward slotted it into the bottom corner. The second came as the game itself drew to a close. In the 85th minute a throw in next to the reserves' corner flag was taken by Eneko to sub Jonathan Reguero who calmly turned and stepped inside before sliding a pass across the penalty area to that man Igor who rifled his shot past the hapless keeper.

Despite the low scoreline, Luis left the stadium reasonably pleased and mentioned to the local journalists that this is only the first game of a new season and that it would take time for the players to adjust to the new tactics and that there were plenty of friendlies arranged to do just that.

Im not going to, I posted this one simply because it was the very first fixture. I wont be updating until all of my remaining friendlies have been played.

okay mate....i never knew that they were that far down

Pre-Season turned out to be a mixed bag for Alaves as the team adjusted to new tactics and new faces. Among the new boys joining Alaves were:

Mikel Arruabarrena (free) - Striker
Kiko (free) - AM/FC
Rafael Foster (loan from Internacional) - DLC
Dorian Dervite (loan from Tottenham) - DC
Mateusz Szczepaniak (loan from Auxerre) - AMRC

Llieda 1 v 2 Alaves

A win on the road for Luis' boys with goals from Cristian Castells and Jonathan Reguero with the away side the better throughout the match.

Alaves 2 - 3 Hercules

Alaves were brought crashing back to earth with this defeat by the Second Division side. Former Spain internationals Francisco Farinos and Rufete as well as former Benfica striker Andrija Delibasic among the goals for the visitors with Arruabarrena and Igor for the hosts. Nothing to be ashamed of though as Hercules are expected to be fighting for promotion to Spain's top flite come the end of the season.

Oninyent 1 v 2 Alaves

A good win for the visitors as Igor again finds the target with Fran Moreno also among the goals in this encounter at El Clariano

Alaves 2 v 4 Bari

Alaves were taught a lesson here by the Serie A side as they were swept to one side with former Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati among the scorers for the Italians. Neru being sent off for Alaves. Despite the defeat there was a positive in the shape of Igor as he notched up both of the home sides goals.

Fuenlabrada 0 v 0 Alaves

Jose Luis managed to lead his side to their first cleas sheet on the back of defeat to Bari. Unfortunately it didnt get any better than that as their strikers were unable to find a way to goal.

Jaen 3 v 1 Alaves

The final friendly of pre-season was to end in disappointment for Alaves as they were beaten by Real Jaen and former striker Geni who had just recently made the move. Arruabarrena added a goal to stake his claim for a place in Jose Luis' starting XI come the start of the season.

The draws for the Spanish Cup 1st and 2nd rounds were made during the pre-season and first up for Alaves is an away trip to S.D. Lemona

A mixed Pre-Season but some promising results there!

I will follow this it looks interesting :)

Sadly things have not gone at all to plan for Alaves' rookie manager. One point from the opening 2 games since the season began have simply heaped further misery upon the Basque club. Adding to that the team were also hammered out of the Spanish Cup. Can Jose Luis turn things around?

Lemona 3-0 Alaves
Alaves were destroyed by fellow 3rd division side Lemona in the Spanish Cup in a atch they were expected to control and win. Midfielder Gusi in great form contributing 2 goals for the home side as Alaves toiled badly. Embarassing stuff from Luis' men.

Alaves 2-3 Pontferradina
More misery for Alaves as their defence caved in as they lead the game going into the final 6 minutes shipping 2 goals from Mitogo and Ruben Vega in the 84th and 90th minutes after first half goals from Arruabarrena and Castells had Alaves in front.

Alaves 3-3 Mirandes
Alaves pick up their first league point with this draw after coming from behind 3 times! Strikers Igor(2) and Arruabarrena digging their team out of a hole. Things are not looking bright for Luis and his team.

Apologies for the lack of updates, Iv been having issues with the save game as it contually crashed and now will not load.

This has forced me to end this particular game. Fear not though as I am going to simply start again and post it up in a new thread. I hope anyone who followed this game will follow the next one.

Thanks
Marc
